Friend sent me this and asked my opinion..

Looks simple enough. Put the net up, and bait it.

Hogs come in underneath and can't get out.

Not sure how it works in real life though. There's some pretty big, tough hogs out there.

Anyone try one yet? How'd it work?

Lol. I would have concerns on longevity too.

Nope, but I imagine it'd be about like catching a bunch of baby hard head catfish in a cast net. If you've never done that, that's a good thing. They are a mofo to get out, and that's putting it nicely LOL.

Great analogy, been there. You brought back the reminder of a catfish's pectoral fin underneath my fingernail. That will stick with ya a few days.

Maybe not. At least the first time.

But, Frankly... I'm not dropping $1500 on a couple of minnow seines. wink

I imagine you could build your own for a small fraction of that.

To me it looks similar to the mesh we use in rocket nets for birds- except with larger holes. The benefit is that it lasts forever- doesn't rot in the sun or when wet. I think the nets I have right now are >15 years old. Its pretty thick and heavy duty- actually really tough to cut. But yes, they are VERY expensive, but in my case the longevity outweighs the cost of cheaper materials.

Assuming it is the same material- or similar- I would be more worried about the post setup holding it up than the actual netting once they start ramming in to it.

Definitely a neat idea.

Clearly another example where having thumbs really helps. smile It sure would be easier to transport, setup, move, etc. My first thought was the catfish in a net analogy, but one of those last scenes was rolling up on a whole bunch in the daytime and they were all still loose.

It seems to hold them when they are 'panicked' and jumping into it. Netting or wire panels will do that.

But when they settle down, I'd love to see if they discover they can ROOT OUT the same way they rooted in. Wonder if they are able to 'climb' the net like they do wire panels.

I've been trapping hogs in pen traps for about 25 years and seen them do all kinds of things to try and get out.

Until the system is out for awhile and 'proven' I'll have to remain skeptical. But I am open minded to a degree as well.

I have considered dropping a net on them, but I figured they would probably destroy the net.

Net? No. Considering Napalm? Yes.
