We watched it on TV too. Somebody in Castroville must have pissed the writer off. grin
Main character was supposedly a former preacher, but his wife was buried in San Fernando's little courtyard? confused2 I know, I know, I'm nitpicking. It was good entertainment.

It was good. The book was much better.

Paulette Giles’ other books would make good movies too. In fact, I think “The Fiddler” and “The Color of Lightning” would be much better material than NOTW.

We liked it. Watched it at home.

That period was a difficult time, post civil war.

I felt it was a very weak script, more like a scenary movie and writing was second fiddle. But the kicker is the movie is set in north texas (for the most part) but filmed in New Mexico. Kind of giggled at that, as i was watching i said theres no way this is north texas and sure enough “shot on location in new mexico”

Felt it was tom hanks weakest movie (that says a lot as he has made some great movies) and aside from having the “local” ties to the “set”, it was just ok. Very predictable, very much an easy follow movie, and weak character development.

To be quite honest, of the last 10 new movies I’ve seen, the scripts absolutely sucked. Story line’s too.

They’re just crank in’ them out to keep getting paid.

For sure. I couldn’t even tell you the last ten new movies i have seen, though some are remarkable:

News of the world...see above
Tenet...good plot, dialogue got lost and really wished i had watched it with CC on
Croods: a new age...actually a good movie with some great comedy in there
Unhinged...predictable but entertaining at least
Inside out (was new to me but my fam had seen it)...good plot with some good writing for an animated movie.
Tax collector...first movie we watched after [censored] down. We didnt care how bad it was. And it wasn’t good
Invisible man...predictable, but entertaining. Unfortunately the plot twist at end was so foreshadowed

Before that i think it was Parasite...hated it.

Just hasn’t been very many new movies out lately at the movies.

Yep, did not cast Erath county in a good light, at all.

I made a post about this earlier asking about the scenery. New Mexico is not NTX...they missed that for sure. I enjoyed the film but think they missed an oak tree or two along the way.
