Supply vs. Demand, nothing new. It will be this way for a LONG time.

Did an inventory yesterday and found 2500 rounds I'd forgotten about, most of it .223/5.56 and .22LR. I'm still short of where I'd like to be on 9mm but at least I have options now on shooting.

I was cleaning out a shed earlier this month and found an old range bag with a 500+ round mixture of .223 and 7.62x39. Had that feeling I had during Christmas when I was younger - felt like someone gave me a gift - even though I had paid for it myself long ago grin

I just left the local Academy in Portland, Tx. There is not one round of ammo on the shelves. NONE! Not one round of anything! eek2 3/4 of the knives are gone too.

I'm still able to find traditional blackpowder shooting components but caps are starting to get a little scarce too. I was able to pick up a couple of tins of #11 caps at Cabelas today. I would have picked up more but I really didn't need any more. I just grabbed a couple in case I can't find any later on. I think that's a big part of the issue. Folks just like me grabbing more than what they need just in case. Feeding the scalpers online and at the gun shows is exasperating the issue too. If folks stop paying the scalpers, the scalpers will quit buying everything on the shelf while everyone else is at work.

Libs are targeting guns,,, if you don't think they will target ammo you are not in the real world. Supply and demand is the American way,, that way is a thing of the past ------Ammo will disappear very soon and never come back. Ex.- someone gets shot, so they can sue the ammo maker and the gun maker, and the store that sold the gun and the store that sold the ammo. This is a different world than the last 200 yrs. Wait and see.

How does someone buying ammo at a brick and mortar store cause Midway and Natchez to be out of stock?

My only gripe is retailers like Academy put all their ammo out at the same time and day each week. For the sake of their customer base , I wish they would put out the ammo at random times during the week and not put put out the full shipment all at once.

Couldn't agree more. It would be the best way to combat the scalpers and help ensure folks who have to work every day have a better chance to find what they need. And that comes from someone who is retired and can easily stand in line every morning.

That's what they do around here. They put it on a cart at the CS desk and restock it s few times a day. I've seen ammo on the shelf at 10-11am and 2-4pm on the same day multiple times. Mostly sporting rifle calibers (233, 6.5G, 6.8, 7.62x39 etc) but also some pistol and larger rifle calibers (30-06, 45/70, 270, 308)

Ha! I just saw ammo available at academy near me and in 2 minutes it was out of stock.

I just got back from the range where I fired just five shots to verify my scope settings a second time after replacing my stock. There were just three other shooters out there and my five shots were the high count for the 20-minute shooting period.

I think it was a multitude of things, creating this "perfect storm"....

First, just before COVID hit, Dec/Jan; the whole firearms industry lets inventories run low, to avoid property taxes and VAT (especially in NY) for materials and product on hand.
Then COVID;
Then Civil Unrest
Then Panic Buying (including the military and LE agencies burning up budgets to stockpile)
Then election worries and the NEW shooters (and them being told by old shooters to stock up)
Now it's the panic buying/turning to scabs resale schemes (and a lot of insider trading at the big box stores)
And the wholesalers are funneling nearly everything to maintain the big box accounts, leaving nothing for the local mom and pop shops like US!

Yeah this part: (and a lot of insider trading at the big box stores) I was in line at BassPro, and a green shirt employee walks by. I stop him to ask when, and what ammo may be coming out. He tells me he doesn't know. So I ask him about the two boxes of 100 count .40 cal he was holding. He tells me he just bought them for himself. (no way, they would have been closed up in a bag, sealed up at the very least) After my wait was up, I get up to make my selection and none of what he had was available, and none on the cart when they brought it out. The good stuff never made it out. Pretty sweet side gig.

Stopped in at the Arlington Academy after my Dr appt this morning (11am). Haven't been in many months. Whiteboard out front said "No Ammo. Truck coming Friday." Went in anyways just for a peak. Only ammo on the shelves was 3 boxes of 450 and plenty of 20ga target loads. Overheard the gun counter guy tell another customer looking for ammo to "come back Friday at 6am."

Yeah a guy I work with bought this from a sporting goods store employee last week for $500.
