I've shot plenty of wood ducks in my lifetime and it just never gets old. Growing up I learned to hunt by sneaking backwater sloughs of the Mississippi river looking for wood ducks, rabbits and woodcock. Fast forward 30 years and I am still at it, just a bit further south. My creek bottoms have had a decent amount of water lately and it brought in the woodies. I have never seen them this late in the season on my place. I grabbed the old 870 and went sneaking around the creek banks. I was able to jump shoot a nice pair and left the rest alone. I am thinking this guy is destined for the mantle, the hen for the roaster. I used to live and breath duck hunting but those days are past me now. This was my only duck action this season, and I am fine with that. Definitely worth the duck stamp. Thanks everyone. My good Friend Eric is a bird taxidermist down in Corpus. It will be in his shop by next week. He has done about 20 birds for me over the years and never disappoints. I'll be sure to post pics when it is done.
