Hopefully this is an okay place to post this. I know this is a shot in the dark, but does anybody here happen to breed or know someone who breeds dachshund pups or have one they are looking to get rid of? I've always had one around and they have been pretty good pets and guard dogs (at least will give you a warning) around the house and seem to do a pretty good job at keeping the mice, rats, squirrels at bay outside. I'm specifically looking for a female pup. I am preferrably looking for a full size, black and tan, and short haired but the size, coat color and length are easily negotiable. Unfortunately craigslist is full of scammers these days and I'm not sure where else to find a puppy. Figured y'all are a wealth of info on everything else, so I would put this out there and see if anybody knew anybody.

Thanks.

We just had another dog thread on this forum. No one complained. Good luck.

Just an observation but I’ve noticed every dachshund owner over ever seen has multiple of them. What’s up with that?

I know you said you wanted a pup but maybe look at a rescue...These are a couple groups:

https://www.atdr.org/

https://www.dltrescue.org/

Who knows you might run across a pup. We adopted one from All Texas Dachsund Rescue back in 2013 or 2014 and he has been a good dog. They will do a check on you and your home but it's not tough.

@Bullfrog I've only ever had one dachshund at a time, but I do see the trend that most dachshund owners have more than one. Unfortunately I can't explain that to you.

@reeltexan Maybe I have just been lucky, but mine wasn't much of a barker. Out of the small group of random dog breeds, he was always the quiet one. I knew if he was barking, there was something that was at least worth going to investigate.

I have a wire-haired dachschund and I can vouch for the bark and the bite...he put 2 of my other pooches (120 lb. male lab and 100 lb. male lab), in the vet hospital whilst jockeying for position in the pecking order whenever we 1st rescued him...he goes over a 6' chain link fence like it was flower bed edging... https://hairstylecamp.com/wire-haired-dachshund-character-traits/

YES. I had two miniature Weiner dogs. One of them bit my little girl for no reason while they were both sitting on my lap, and then latched onto my hand when I smacked him. He died.

The other was a great little dog. Noisy as hell, but he was my little buddy and killed many a gopher & mole.

They do this at the fair I assume? Weiner dog races sounds like a blast if you can watch with a beer in your hand. Post up next time so we can come cheer him on to victory. up

D&L Feed in Denton has an open house of sorts every year and they put on a costume contest as well as a race. City of Lewisville also has a race every year. Here is a link from the UNT paper a couple years ago.

Under the new PC rules someone's whippet will now identify as a Dachshund and mess everything up hammer

Growing up we had dachshunds. We had as few as 1 and as many as 3 at a time. Raised a few litters. They are pack hunters lol small in size, but anything that ventured into that yard was gonna have 3 mongrel ankle biters gnawing on it in short order. I cant tell you how many squirels opposums rabbits etc. they killed. Were good dogs for us. I will likely never have another though as they are prone to back problems.

I've got 1.5 Dachshunds (one is half chiwawa). They are barkers but I love them. I'll always have a dachshund in the stable but you do have to watch them around small children. They were originally bred to hunt badgers and can be a bit fierce for a little dog.
