I am looking into a red dot for my carry pistol. Someone recommended the Docter 2 but I'm having a hard time finding one. What is the feedback on the Vortex? I don't want to spend a whole lot and they are some of the most affordable.

I have a vortex red dot on my xd elite pistol. It has been great so far. However, I don't think I'd look at it for a carry pistol. It doesn't have an instant on or shake awake feature, so you'd have to turn it on after you drew your pistol. That would be worse than carrying with an empty chamber IMO.

I have the vortex viper on my duty gun turn it on in the morning and if it will be a long day I'll turn off and back on otherwise I'll use my sights if needed and not on, that's why they are there
I am currently looking for a rds for my 43x mos now
I was concerned about the rds but after having one I think my carry weapon will have one from here on

The only one i would even consider on a carry gun would be an rmr, all the rest are way too unreliable. After much consideration on this subject, i just stayed with irons. I don't want to spend a whole lot, red dot, and carry pistol are phrases that shouldn't be used together

Practice practice practice on your draw and acquisition if you haven't done it mastered it yet.
I have a RMR and a Burris. RMR wins hands down

Holosun makes a tough RMR footprint red dot if you don’t care where they are made. Couple Benjamins cheaper than the Trijicons and very durable from what I’ve witnessed.
