Found this old picture of my Dad and me from around 50 years ago at his Llano lease. I was in college and home for a hunt with him. I remember that they would find old cars and have them hauled out to the lease and use for deer stands. Just rolled the windows down (but were always full of mice)!

He wrote a hunting and fishing column for the local newspaper and this picture was run there - good memories for sure - he taught me a lot

Great pics Tim. We just started bow hunting down there about 4 miles south of Llano just east of hwy. 16 on J.L. Hoy's land. There was a bow shop in Llano can't remember the name. I do remember it had kinda a funny name.

Neat photo and great memory im sure.

My brother took a cousin and his fiancé on a doe hunt about 15 years ago now... my how time flies! He said the "blinds" they hunted out of were old VW busses with a hole cut in the roof. To shoot you would stand up through the hole and shoot over the roof.

Great great pic tlk. Sadly I have none of Dad and I. We hunted together with me killing my first buck at 12 and he died when I was 19. A few bucks killed in there but I guess we werent big on pics back then. Ive been reminiscing a lot lately and so I may dig out some old photos some day and post a new thread. Thanks a lot for posting, and I would like to see some of your Dads writings as well.

Wasnt sure if that was a cap or just all hair. And, boy, I bet the taxidermist had a time stitching up that neck slice.....

yeah that was back in my college "Hippy" days -wish I still had that hat for sure

Back then my Dad was religious about being in the stand at least one full hour before light. We would leave camp and he would stop in the pitch dark and say "ok hop out and start walking - your stand is 400 yards that way. If you cannot find it and it starts getting light then sit down next to a tree and hunt."

He then would say "when you are done still hunt back to camp." He taught me "take three steps, stop and look for 5 minutes, then three more steps." Took a dang long time to get back to camp but I learned how to really hunt and killed a lot of deer that way. Fun times
