Yesterday the wife and I had some errands to run after work, so I drove her to work. When I went to pick her up at 5:15 pm, right in the middle of rush hour traffic, I almost ran off the road when I saw a bunch of deer in a drainage ditch. This is just east of IH 35 on Rittiman Road in northeast San Antonio.

Some of the biggest bucks I have seen have been along the Leon Creek Greenway off of Bandera Rd.

Lots of deer in the San Antonio area. Lived in New Braunfels from 2016-2020 and worked in SA. Saw plenty of dead ones on 35 during the rut, some in the most heavily populated areas of San Antonio. I’ll have to see if I can find the news story about the people that “rescued” some new born kittens in San Antonio that turned out to be bobcats. Found it: Kitten rescue

Some areas of town it doesn't surprise me, but this is a pretty large dense industrial commercial area. They follow that ditch for hundreds or thousands of yards before it opens up. I wish i would have taken a pic of the traffic and surroundings, but i couldnt get one driving.

To bad some of the cities, like Austin, San Antonio, and a few other, won't let you hunt the green belt area's, and help thin out some of the city deer.

Saw 28 deer bringing my kid to school this morning. Im not saying you cant see deer in urban areas, this just struck me as odd. Is the street view, the ditch is to the left in this photo.
