Anybody have experience hunting in or around Lambshead ? I had not been out that way in years, and there is a lot of brush clearing, mesquite pushing that looks to have been going on for years. More curious than anything if the deer herd was still as strong as it was back "in the day." I hunted Nail and Krooked River back in late 80's and that country was loaded with quality animals.
Take care

Lots have experience around there Im sure. I have some but its been many years. I still keep up with it a little but Im sure many are more current than me and will chime in. I will say that around there some has broken up a little and a very big chunk has been bought by a wealthy man and I believe he leases another big chunk. All in all I THINK that is still mostly big Ranch country. Im sure the hunting is still very good unless certain specific areas have been shot up which of course is common in many areas. As far as the mesquite clearing, I guess I havent been through there lately enough to of noticed very much of that.
Curious if you are wanting to find a place to hunt there or if you are just curious.

I know a good buddy of Nail, maybe the wealthy guy you're describing. Think he hunts a 10K acre pasture near Albany in Shackleford county. Some of the pics I have seen are awesome...

We hunt a big ranch about 4 miles from Lambshead.
Yes they have cleared the mesquites of a large portion and it has effected hunting some. I know several people that have gotten off the lease. That said there are still giants hiding in the draws and along the river.
The rich guy someone mentioned bought the Hendrix ranch 69k acres and part a ranch that leased to the Nail which was 10k acres.
Lots of big deer on all of it.
Another big ranch the Dawson Conway was sold this past year it is 25k acres just north of where we hunt. Most all of the ranches north of town are still very large and intact thankfully.

Hunted the Walker-Buckler many years. Beautiful country. I heard it was sold about 2015 and no longer leased out for hunting.

Hunted the Lambshead for 8 years during the 90's. Had spots on the Gober, Mo, Mk and Paint pastures. Awesome place with tons of history and artifacts and some fairly good deer hunting with the best being next to the Nail.

Friend of mine heads up most of the pastures now. Clearing a lot of the land along the river has not affected the deer hunting.

I believe the current owner of that 10K acre pasture and possibly more is Martin Nail, wealthy DFW based businessman.

I was on the Butterfield and Gober back in the early 90's. Maybe we ran into each other??? Howard Key was head of our leases. Sat quite a few times with Mr Matthews in the cook house. He used to tell stories to my sons. Loved it out there then. There was a warhorse that lived in the corner of the Nail, Butterfield and I think the MK pasture. Never could catch him on our side of the fence.

Here's another 9 point that scored 164 taken at the Lambshead in the early to mid 90's by another lease member. Snake Oil was on that lease.

I have done a lot of work in that area over the years both on the Nail and Lambshead. I have been all over the state and worked on hundreds of different ranches and those two always stood out in my memory because of the quality of deer I saw there. If my memory Is correct isn’t the lambshead the one where there is a rock wall around the headquarters that the owner hired immigrants to build and when they finished and came to collect their money he just killed them all and threw them in the river?

I am pretty sure it is Trevor Reece Jones. He also owns the Hendrix ranch to the north.

Thats who I was referring to earlier(Hendrix anyway) but I always hesitate to throw out names on here. He has his thrown out a lot, so sure it doesnt matter(probably likes it.)
