I have a very old Cub Scout pocket knife, which dates back to when I was a Cub Scout. The main blade is snapped off about at the middle. Can the blade be replaced? Any idea of the cost?

I have a favorite nephew that’s a Cub Scout and I’d like him to have it.

Of course I have to wonder if a Cub Scout these days could even have a pocket knife. I sure hope so.

Z71, it looks a bit like that. I need to dig it out of a drawer in the study.

I guess I snapped the blade, though I don’t remember how.

Scouts very much so still have knives and practice woodwork and carving. My youngest got his Eagle this year, both my boys were given custom made BSA Eagle knives from THF knife makers when they got their Eagle.

Good to hear that Scouts still have Scout knives. Last night I went and dug around, looking for the knife, and found it. But...the blade isn’t snapped. The knife is in fine shape, though a little oil and polishing would be good.

That said, I absolutely swear I had a Scout knife with a snapped blade. I wonder where I put it.

I’ll see if my brother wants this bladed knife for his grandson, the Cub Scout.

Boyscouts can carry a knife on campouts as long as they have the Totem Chip card on their person which signifies proficiency in basic knife user safety and knowledge; don't think cubscouts can carry on their person but their parents obviously can on campouts

There are several people that can repair your knife. I know Glen Brooks custom knives does a good job. A little pricey but an heirloom is worth it.

Also check with House of Blades in Fort Worth or AG Russel Knives in Arkansas.

If my knife, I would search on ebay for a beater boy scout knife or the same model of Camillus knife or whatever brand it is. Better yet an incomplete one as long as the main blade is present. Then remove the blade, clean it up, and use that to repair my knife. You should be able to pick one up fairly cheap on ebay with the only condition that it has the main blade intact.

Totin' Chip. Not totem. As in it for allowing Totin a cutting tool. And when you got caught doing something unsafe, at least in my ol' troop, theyd cut off a corner. Lose all 4 corners and you had to take the class again. There was a Fire Chip too, but we never used that. Anyone could be a pyro

Mine from the 1970s. I found it in a keepsakes file at my parents house after my father died.

You probably did mess it up. Then someone, you, your parents, replaced it. Doesn't matter, you still have your to hand down. .

Update. I did hand the knife down. Sent it to my brother, who is the granddad to the Cub Scout. But now he worries that if he gives the knife to the Cub Scout, the other kid will be upset that he doesn’t get one. Geez! Not my problem. He can find a knife for the other kid. Heck, I could have sent another knife. I have several.

I put an edge on that Cub Scout knife, but not a super sharp one. When it gets dull, it’ll stay dull. My brother, a truly great guy, can do about anything but sharpen a knife.

Update 2. Just got a thank you note from the Cub Scout (named Gus). The thank you note said, as spelled, and I think you’ll enjoy this:

“Dear Uncle Kirk

Thank you for the knife. I’m going to show it to my Cub Scout teacher. I’m going to sharpen lots of sticks. Thank you again.
Sencerly,
Gus

Gotta love that kid.
