Neighbor showed up with this this evening and trying to establish value. I looked on the interweb and it's all over the place. I'd be interested in it for a wall hanger. Any insight would be appreciated. It has the cleaning rod and also the rear sight is complete.

Trapdoor rifles really haven’t gone up in value much over the years. That rifle has sanded wood and suffered from improper storage. so It’s value is for shooting. As long as the bore is very good to excellent I’d say $400-$550. I’d consider $400 a good deal. If the bore is fair or poor then I wouldn’t pay more than $400.

Thanks for the info. Did some research myself and in Poor condition there $250-500 is what I've found.
Deal may happen in the $300.00 range.

I may have a gunsmith check it out and shoot it. I think it would be a hoot.

If shot it would not be with modern ammo.

The Remington 45-70 405g Green and Yellow box ammo is loaded down specifically for trapdoor Springfields.

I think that’s a fair price among friends especially considering the condition.

Like said Remington 405gr green box ammo is loaded to black powder pressures as are most cowboy action loads.

My parents used to have one of those Spanish-American War pieces hanging over their fireplace. I always wondered what it would have been like to march long distances and fight with one of those. The weight and lack of balance must have sucked!
