Gotta think it has something to do woth the rona....combination of not enough workers to process meat and too many folks working “from home” so they could hunt mire thus creating more demand on the processors.
Sad deal. Some businesses don’t understand limitations and try to keep pushing despite not having the capability to do so. Makes me wonder how many other facilities are in the same boat and just dont get turned in because there is no one close enough to notice the “rotting smell”....gotta be bad

This one in Iowa Park has been posted before I believe, but just in case someone missed it: Texas Game Wardens bust meat processing plant, discover 80 rotten deer carcasses https://www.mysanantonio.com/news/l...spoiled-deer-15867929.php#photo-20489674There a third one also but I don't know where it was at?

Always, always, always CUT YOUR OWN MEAT! It isn't difficult, it doesn't take that long and you NEVER have to worry about how the meat has been cooled, stored or handled.

Something tells me that "Outfitter" in the Poteet's facility's name means they were trying to be a "Jack of all trades and master at none." There's a couple of other hunting outfits I know of that try to be many things and I don't think they do anything that well, except the cocky attitude. They excel at that.

Several years ago, I shot a deer, and a hog, on the same trip hunting. I was pressed for time, and decided to take the hog to a processor. I processed the deer at home. While there the owner got a plastic tub to put the meat in. I noticed the tub was not clean. I should have left, but did not. I picked up the hog, and started cooking some of it. There was an off smell while cooking, and a real off taste. No matter how I cooked it, same result. I thought maybe it was just a bad tasting pig. Not so sure now. The business is closed, the owner retired. Never again. There are some great deer processors, sad to see these horror stories. All of us know what is involved in the harvest and care of a game animal. These affected customers have been really let down.

I am glad to see TPWD getting involved in this. I had a whole deer completely ruined by a processing plant three years ago. They have since sold out and new ownership seems to have turned the place around, but I am still hesitant to take them anything. I have one man I like cutting up my deer. He does it right, quickly, and refuses to send anything out that he wouldn't serve his own family for dinner (his words). I can do my own, and have in the past. But until my guy retires he'll continue to get my business. After that I'm probably back to processing my own again.

Processers around here were shutting down for days at a time so they could catch up. It was annoying to some, but it's better than taking in more than you can handle and having this happen. I suspect these businesses, for either greed or what they thought were customer satisfaction reasons, refused to turn anyone away when they got too backed up or freezers got full.
The guy I use has a spotless operation. It looks like a hospital in the back where they do their processing. I keep going back to him for that reason. I trust what he does.
He shut down for a couple of days this season as well just so they could catch up.
