I'm just hearing about this but it sounds like deer love it. Why isn't it more popular?

Turner Seed Co up in Breckenridge sells it. Most feed/seed dealers can get it ordered for you at their store if they do not carry it.

I did a broadcast of triticale that was supposed to get rain the next day. Front moved on me though and the seed sat for 8 days with no rain. I still got pretty good results with no fertilizer added. You can bet I'll be at it again this year, broadcasting more, and adding nutrients on top.
A 50# bag was $28...hard to beat

There are a lot of varieties of triticale. Need to make sure you are buying the right variety for your soil and time of year for your food plot. Deer love it because it has higher protein than wheat or rye. You typically plant it like you would winter wheat. Call this company for advise on where to get it. https://www.watleyseed.com/about-us/BTW.. my dad is the research scientist that developed pretty much all the variations of triticale that exist. PM me if you need more info on this topic.

Not only for deer, but for winter graze for cattle too.

So... I've got several PMs on this topic. I can tell you mule deer prefer it and I've got pics of herds parked in our triticale patch. If enough guy's wanted some for their food plots next year, give me a PM and maybe I can do a group buy next time I'm up in the panhandle. OR contact Andy Watley at the website from my previous post to see if there is a dealer near you.

Question for you -- how does Triticale work in the spring and what would be the earliest you would plant?

Question for you -- how does Triticale work in the spring and what would be the earliest you would plant? Yes. Just like wheat there are spring varieties. But you really only see them planted in western states. (Arizona etc) so finding some near here would be difficult. You'd probably do just as good and cheaper planting spring oats. Fall planting for forage purposes is where you get the most out of triticale. Andy Watley or my dad are the real experts on this topic. If someone wants to talk to them call Andy via the number on his website, or PM me and I'll get you my pop's number. They both love to talk triticale.
