I have an old ruger mark I that I believe has an aftermarket barrel...or was a stock barrel that was ported. It is stupid accurate. I want a ruger mark iv with the threaded barrel, but haven't seen one. Another thought....have the ported area cut off this barrel, threaded, and have the sight moved back. Or should I leave this one alone because it's already perfect?

Man I’d leave it the way it is. That thing is sweet!

Lol. The grips are the one thing that I don't like about this old pistol!

The "upper" is the serialized part so you should be able to tell if it's original and modified or swapped out. I would leave it because it's cool and the condition of the lower, etc. doesn't warrant a restoration.

Pass the gravy.

I wouldn't change the Mark I. I had one that I bought in the 70's and literally wore it out. I "made the mistake" of buying a Mark IV. Don't get me wrong as there are things that I like about it (like easy to clean) but the trigger was TERRIBLE. After I put a Volquartsen trigger in it and added a Bedding Gel it is now "almost" as good as the Mark I was (spent $150 on it).

It's not what you say, or think, that counts. It is what you DO!

Don't jack with that one and buy you a mark 4 threaded and get trigger worked over.

Update: I was playing around with it and decided to go shoot today. I noticed a roll mark on the left side of the barrel. It was very faint and I hadn't noticed it in the 24 years I have owned this gun. It looks to say JE Clark, Shreveport, LA. Looks like this may be a custom built by Clark custom guns. That would explain the awesome trigger and accuracy.

Man, that's a great looking gun! I have a Mark III that I'll never part with.

That appears to be an original Jim Clark Sr. gun. Leave it as is and go buy another one to shoot/modify. For more information on Jim Sr. visit clarkcustomguns.com

Yeah, after figuring that out, it'll stay unmolested.
