I am wanting to buy another bolt action .308 with a nice wood stock to hunt with.

What would you suggest?

Buy a Ruger American and get a custom stock and good load work up. Save $ vs. an overpriced ‘custom’ rifle w/ questionable accuracy.

Remington 600 Mohawk vent rib

Or

Ruger #1-B, not a bolt action, would be a cool hunter

Well I have a LAW in .308 but it has a synthetic stock if you change your mind. Great shooter.

If budget is solid, Sako. From there down, Win70 Featherweight or Tikka Hunter. If you just want wood and a truck gun, refinish a 788 .308.

If your budget permits it then get a Kimber Mauser copy. Out-of-the-box it will shoot as good as you ever will need it to. If you need to save a little money get a Sendero and take the time to bed the action correctly.

On the strengths of my old pawn shop Sako L579 in .308, I bought a Tikka T3X Hunter (left hand) in .270 Win.
The first group off the bench was using some admittidly old Winchester factory 130 grain ammo...It was.. Meh..not what I
had hoped for...
The next group was factory fresh Federal Blue box (read cheap) 130 grain power point ammo...4 of which went into same ragged hole at 100 yds.
The fifth (actually, the third shot of the group), was maybe 1/2 inch away....So I attribute that to me.
If you can find the wood you want, Tikka would be hard to beat

If it’s within the budget, Sako 85 or Winchester model 70 super grade. The Sako would be my first choice.

I would remove the following from your list:
Both Ruger models
All Remington models (though I'm not familiar with 600 Mohawk)
Tikka
Savage (please remove that one first)

If he's looking for nice wood, he does need to remove the Ruger American and the remington 788. Have you seen the savage anniversary edition? It's a pretty rifle.
