Lot of knowledge here. What do y’all consider best breed as overall outdoor farm dog? Protection of goats and chickens, killing of rats etc.
Grandfather had a Boston terrier of all dogs, that was great at watching the coop and keeping the outdoors in order.

Blue Heeler. Smart. Aggressive. Fearless. Tough. Uncle had one. Maybe he got a dumb one, it would kill a chicken every now and then. It got kicked and was put down.

Another vote for the Blue Heeler. A cur with some Blue Heeler should also be fine.

I've watched every Dr Pol there is, and one thing I've noticed was almost every farm had one of three dogs. Take your pick Blue heeler, Australia shepherd, or Border collie.

Ill go with better fences and no dog or if you want a dog, one that is a pet and stays in a yard.

My neighbor has a Drogo Argentino. The dog is a whopper, and I’d guess the weight at well over 100 pounds. Also quiet and friendly. Leaps tall fences at a single bound. I’m glad it likes me (as a person, not as a meal). It also likes cats, if you get my drift.
Not my monkeys, not my circus...

These are the main 3 for sure. I’d add Catahula and the Cur. My grandparents and great uncles all ran cattle with dogs. They had each of these at different times along with mix breeds of these I've watched every Dr Pol there is, and one thing I've noticed was almost every farm had one of three dogs. Take your pick Blue heeler, Australia shepherd, or Border collie.

While the majority of the farm and ranch dogs around here seem to be Heeler's or Heeler mix, there's a surprising amount of Jack Russell's. Mines a Parson Russel which seem to be the more common around here.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I second the Lacy dog. I live in the country and mine is relatively perfect. Nothing moves that he doesn't see.
