bulk cottonseed was $232 a ton last year - this year $335 - yikes!

how much was fuel last year compared to this year, same with fertilizer ect.

I think the crop was off quite a bit. I know it was in the panhandle.

^^^^^Yep, when they planted year before it was a $1.00 a seed, they will planting cotton this year so we'll see what it is now!!!

Yep I got it a few weeks ago for $300 and it was up to $350 plus here by the time it was gone

It's no where close to $1 a seed

If it was then it would be over $9 million a ton for cotton seed to plant

I'm just going by what the guys that farm where i live are telling me. Maybe its a better price where you get it!! Im talking the planting seed.

Im probably wrong about the price(not the first time lol) i know its costly to plant cotton. Heck ive been drunk and slept when i talked to em last. But the ranch i work for, we have quit feeding cottonseed.

The deer just never took to it on our place. We had 5 locations scattered over 6,000 acres to test and they just didn't seem to care for it.

Yeah it's costly but not quite a dollar a seed.

A modern variety with all the hotrod genetics and seed treatment can cost over $500 a bag though most are $350-450 a bag. A bag will have around 230k seed in it. Planting rate where I'm at will vary from 20ish to over 50k seed/acre.

For my research trials I plant cotton at 53k for irrigated ground. If $450 a bag it cost just over $100 per acre to plant cotton in seed alone.

I know it's jumped way up because the 40% cottonseed range cubes I feed were $370/ton about 5 months back and now they are $470

I bought 50,000 lbs delivered to my door in 1K super sacks for $325/ton a couple weeks ago.

yep, agree don k ... with increased demand, the gin or supplier can charge more since there is a limited season for supply.

I have been feeding protein to deer since 1989. I can say that just about every year the price of protein would drop at the end of the summer in August and then go up in Jan or Feb. Crops were being harvest in summer to fall and yields dictated pricing. Same in Jan-Feb...the worst time of the year and the highest demand for feed in the livestock industry. So if it was a bad harvest and not as much crop to hold over then prices went up after the first of the year. By the same token if their was a record harvest the prices generally stayed the same...but if it was a drought in areas and a bad winter then demand may draw on those record yields to drive the inventory down and prices up. Years ago it was standard to do fall bookings for contract prices for the fall into the spring. Cottonseed is the base protein for many livestock and wildlife feed. So with a dry year in many areas of the state and possible low harvest you are seeing the inventory drop from the demand. After deer season many start to feed so the draw on protein goes from 0 to 60 in that time.

I get increases - supply and demand - but to almost double from one year to the next is pretty radical IMO

Recently bought a ton of cotton seed cubes and did not ask how much they were and when i signed the ticket they were just over $500.. They were allready loaded so they came home with me.
