We have a place up in clay county, 153 acre’s and we’re interested in planting something this year that’ll bring in the deer. Never done that before. We only have a UTV with a drag behind discer. What would y’all recommend? I don’t know mind planting something in the spring and doing it again in the fall if needed.

We are in northern Jack county, real close to Clay. We plant oats and turnips in September. Of course we didn’t get enough rain for it to germinate this year. The deer love both when the come up.
We don’t do anything fancy when we plant. We mow the field, disc it, and spread seed by hand. Then drag a big section of chain link fence around to cover up the seed. Works pretty well.

When we had irrigated country we could fence off we planted lab-lab and clay iron cow peas in the summer.
Now I plant protein feeders
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Use the disc to aerate the soil in as many areas as you can so that you can promote forb growth right now. If you want to broadcast some seeds to that are perennials then call Turner Seed Co. in Breckenridge to their recommendations for your area.

Pretty good conversations in the Food Plot section on the forum here.
Most true feed stores carry a pre-mixed food plot option. There are fall blends and spring blends. I have always had good luck with them, Takes the guess work out of it and come it the correct ration.

Most of the Texas County's have some Conservation department...you should check with yours to get their assistance. In Fannin County the office actually buys the seed in advance of the season and then resells it at their cost. They determine the seed mix options IE Deer; Dove; Turkey; etc.. They also offer equipment - a no till seeder and a drill type seeder for rent for the county residents to utilize.
A minute spent outdoors is so much more valuable than a day spent online!

UTV’s really aren’t powerful enough or geared right to use as a tractor.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.
