Does anybody still load and shoot hard cast bullets anymore, or is everyone going to jacketed stuff. Reason I ask, Ive got a couple thousand 44 and 45 bullets, some sized and lubed, a lot more raw. Got them boxed up and it's 50+ pounds of lead. I generally just shoot them up in sabots in the muzzleloaders. Should I try to sell, or just take them down to the recycler???

I bet you can sell them easily for more than a recycler would give you.

50 pounds may not be that many though lol lead is heavy. I have a 500 count box of 45 cal 250 grain RNFP's and it is surprisingly heavy for its size!

Lots of people do. I would buy it for the lead but it seems you'll have to ship. Others might buy it for using as actual bullets.

Pass the gravy.

Unless they are a poor quality garage cast I say sell them. I hate to say it but you will have to count them. If you have a means of weighing something fairly light you can count out a 100 and just do the math to get a estimate.

I bought 2000 rounds of 255 cast and shipping weight was 77 pounds. Math says 72.85 pounds.

Or if you have reloading scales.

7000 grains to the pound
7000 divided by bullet weight = bullets per pound.

Total weight x bullets per pound = total bullet count.

You will also need to know the size of the bullets.

44= .429-.43X”

45= .451-.458”

I’m starting to make this sound like a pain if you’re not a reloader already. Sorry.

Put them on a local market place as you described above and they will sell quick. If they are of Unknown size and weight a reloader will likely only give you lead price. Remember, used wheel weights are free at most tire shops.

All over the map I know. Bottom line is, if you know what you have you can sell them easily. Lots of people shoot hardcast 44 & 45.

I have been loading up .38 special and .44 special loads in their respective magnum cases with trail boss for practice. Cleaning the gun is easier as I don't worry about the carbon build up in the cylinders. If in .45 you mean .45 ACP then no, I don't know anybody shooting the 230 lead round nose these days. I don't own anything capable of firing a .45 long colt so I can't speak to that.

I suggest sorting the bullets by caliber, bullet style per caliber, and then by lubed and unlubed. For example ASIC777 shoots .44 caliber bullets and not .45 caliber. Whereas I shoot .45 caliber but not .44 caliber bullets.

You can then research the prices of what you have to determine a rough value.

When researching bullet prices I believe you will find that hand cast bullets like Beartooth Bullets and Montana Bullets are much more expensive than machine cast bullets like Badman Bullets and Penn Bullets. Likely you will have to use the machine cast value as your baseline.

Luck favors the prepared mind.

Seems like a "Sure I will ship" would have gone a long way since I was interested if you put it for sale. Oh well...

Pass the gravy.
