Personally, I think the older mature buck was the winner for several reason. He was older, thus he had been in more fights. He was shorter in body length and more compact and that allowed him to gain leverage .....that allowed him get underneath the younger buck. Being older he knew how use his strengths to win a fight from his experience at fighting over the past.
Back 15-16 yrs ago now I watched a mature South Texas buck come into a feeder...he was either a 5 or 6 yr old 150 class 10 pt . He was really gimpy and limping badly at this time during the rut in late Dec. At that same blind in walked what I thought was 4 yr old really large bodied 6x5 that was pushing 170. Both of them postured and I thought this 4 yr old is going to win any fight hands down. I thought in the shape that older buck was in that this is not going to be pretty or end well for him. Not only was I wrong but the older buck(who was in far worse shape) won the fight quickly, but with ease. He used his age and fighting knowledge to get up and under that 4 yr and rolled him. Once he did that in a few seconds the younger buck new he was done. The older buck then chased him off and walked him out of sight. The mature buck then limped back to the feeder and started checking does.

Awesome pics, I especially enjoyed this one where the mature buck basically "pins" both antlers of the 4 yr buck with his left antler. As you mentioned, experience matters.
Thanks for sharing.
