My Peltor earmuff finally died. What are the best electronic hearing protectors for the range, especially for rifles? My hearing is terrible from years of noise, like many of y’all I’m sure. And do you wear them hunting, for that one shot from a stand? Unfortunately I don’t but should. It would be great to find an effective device, that blocks out loud gunshots, enhances hearing while hunting, doesn’t affect the cheek weld, and is comfortable. Is there such a thing?

In the stand, I have been wearing my AirPods Pro. They have active noise cancellation and if I get a text from one of the other hunters, Siri will read the text to me in my ear. I wouldn’t rely on them for a range session. You can simply squeeze the stem and go from noise cancelling to transparency mode which will allow you to hear your surroundings.
For the range, I use a set of Walker over the ear muffs with active noise compression.
Just my .02 worth. YMMV

I use MSA muffs at the range and will sometimes double up with a pair of plugs under them. The gel cups make them very easy and comfortable to wear for extended periods of time.
The Peltor with the gel ear cups are close to being as comfortable and are a little cheaper.
Hunting...I require a suppressor so no, I don't wear ear protection for hunting situations...I would if I got into a situation where a suppressor couldn't be used.
Good luck.

Looking at a company call Tactical Hearing out of Utah. They make custom heating protectors/aids that are more like hearing aids, worn inside the ear and custom designed and fitted based on your needs and hearing status. They look pretty interesting, but like hearing aids, are pretty pricey, up to $3000. Of course, custom hearing aids for us old guys are in that range. They offer protection and hearing enhancement. I’m curious about those. Like many of you, I wear muffs at the range but not hunting. And my job really is harmful to my ears, but I don’t wear any protection at work. So my hearing and tinnitus are problems.
I may bite the bullet and try this company. Do any of you wear in ear devices beyond the normal plugs or muffs?

I use Walker muffs at the range and the Walker in ear electronic plugs when bird hunting. The muffs mess up my cheek weld when I'm shooting shotguns.
For the blind, I keep those cheap Howard Leight in ear plugs around my neck. They're not great but they are certainly better than nothing for a single shot.

I've got those Walker ear bud with the amplification. They are pretty good and my deaf arse can hear with them on. The battery life if pretty good, and the batteries are cheap. Not too much wind noise either.

I just ordered a custom pair from ESP heating protection. Had my ear impressions made. These are pricey but everyone seems to like them. Hope I’m right.
