My uncle gave me a bunch of my late grandfather’s reloading stuff. Bullets, powders, brass, primers, and some old ammo that still hasn’t been fired. Any recommendations on how to even begin to price any of this stuff? I’ll be keeping the stuff my uncle and I still shoot to load for those calibers, but the rest of it needs to go. Most of the stuff I’m finding online is fairly new/fresh items.

I’m still slowly sorting through everything and taking pics, but there’s still a lot of sorting to do. I see numbers all over the place. The majority of this has been sitting out in a garage for the past 15-20 years.

If I were in your shoes, I'd go to midwayusa.com to get current pricing. Things like powder, primers, bullets, I would sell for full retail. Dies and other accessories I would price according to condition. You could also use the powder, bullets, etc for trade bait for stuff you do need.

I got better deals trading for stuff I wanted than if selling outright. Reloading stuff is in high demand, if you mark it up for what the market will bear, the buyers think you are ripping them off. Trading makes it easier to stomach paying the higher price.

Unclebubba, and ideas on old brass? Seems like most I’m seeing is 40-80 cents a round (slightly used) but I’m sure some of this brass I got is going to take a LOT of polishing to clean up. Some may not even be usable, plus I have no clue how many times it’s been loaded. I could run it all through my tumbler but really don’t want to jack with it.

The powder I’ll keep, along with some of the bullets in the calibers we have. Unfortunately all of the dies, press, manuals got sold in the estate sale before I started loading myself. My uncle just grabbed all of the “ammo components” as he called it. Bullets, brass, powder and primers. There’s some cool nostalgic stuff here though.

While I agree with you 100%, whatever I sell, I’ll give the cash back to my uncle. Times are tough for some folks unfortunately.

A lot of that stuff is from the 70's at least so he has had it for more than 15-20 yrs.

I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to price brass. I can't recall the last time I bought used brass.

I’d bet the majority of the powder is bad if the garage wasn’t under hvac. Typically they’ll get an ammonia type smell to them when they go bad. Primers might be good, might not you just have to try them.

I’d probably look at between 50-75% of today’s prices but the difference is how it looks...super clean, I’d do 75 maybe 80%. If it’s tarnished then on the lower side.

If those boxes are full you may get $150-$200 for the bullets on the table. Powder is virtually worthless due to age. I can’t honestly see anyone giving much for powder that has been opened and stored in the garage for that long.

I did a little digging on this old box of ammo and found a little info on it. I have not opened it to look at the casings head stamp or even count them yet, but the "-S-" in the lot number -S-25052 stands for steel casing. Below that, it was Repackaged in 8-44, or August of 1944. The E.C. stands for "Evansville Ordnance Plant (Chrysler)" in Evansville, Indiana.
