I’ve been on a couple of spring hunts in my 61 years that didn’t quite measure up to my expectations. Basically it was set up at or near the roost, guide would call a little bit, turkeys would go their own way, and it was time to move to the pop up by the feeder. I’m not looking to start a debate about methods; how you do what you do is your business, and as long as it’s legal more power to you. For my part, however, I’d like to see one fooled by something other than corn before I check out. Can anyone on here point me towards a guide who can show me how it’s done? I don’t get to spend near the time I used to hunting and fishing and I’m looking for a leg up. Thanks for any help you can give.

Book a hunt at White Oak or Bent Creek in Alabama or somewhere similar in the Deep South. Go there to learn, come back to Texas and go forth and conquer.
Seriously, once you learn how to kill turkeys in the south, you can kill them anywhere. Frequent sites like oldgobbler.com and Gobblernation.com for more insight to turkey hunting. Aldeer.com has a good turkey section too.
Biggest thing is learning with someone who knows what they are doing can cut years off of trial and error experience. Hard headed eastern turkeys in the heavily pressured thick woods of the Deep South make for some trials, but once you learn those, it’s easy to adapt to the other species.

I’ve hunted Bent Creek in Alabama before and the amount of turkeys they have is nuts!! We were deer hunting but I actually had turkeys roost in the tree with me on 2 separate occasions and seen huge flocks every sit.

Westervelt lodge in Alabama is another great place to hunt. I live in central Ala and hunt both private and public land here and in Ga and will agree with what the other guys have said, Southern Easterns are some of the toughest to kill on a regular basis.
We are headed to hunt Rios in the George West Tx area in April, anybody got some do’s and don’t’s? Please shoot me PM, don’t want to highjack this thread!
Best of luck!
