I need to put in a new driveway off a county road that is 20 wide. and I am trying to figure out how wide it needs to be at the entrance to be able to get an 18 wheeler in. I know that county requires 30' culvert but I am not sure if that will be big enough.
anyone know the math to figure this out

I would fill in the ditch and skip. The culvert if there is anyway possible.

I would love to do that but the county won't let that happen. Not any permits for building or inspections but you do have to have a permit for culvert, and they want me to upgrade the road but that is another conversation.
This is the unincorporated hunt county

A request as a truck driver. Please give your drivers as much room as you possibly can, Thanks.

Theres a load calculation in that equation as well. Saw a haul truck crush a gravel drive and metal culvert on a new construction and got itself stuck real bad.

I am on a FM highway and my culvert pipe is 30' long. 18 wheelers still have to swing out into the bar-ditch across from my gate to get into my property. My gate is recessed back 16' from the fenceline. The ditch is 30' wide also.

Call Garvey and ask him details of his. I know he’s been thanked by semi delivery drivers about the room he’s given them. Plus, it looks like a very similar setup.

I own and haul all the equipment and will be driving a semi out there a lot so I want to make it easy on myself..... Call Garvey and ask him details of his. I know he’s been thanked by semi delivery drivers about the room he’s given them. Plus, it looks like a very similar setup. Yeah it is pretty close to his. I'll shoot him a txt and see how wide his is.

A simple DIY way to figure it out..
1. Get a piece of paper and draw the county road and your driveway to scale. 2. Cut out a piece of cardboard the size of the truck and trailer. (use a single rectangle the size of both - don't articulate the truck) 3. Experiment with the angles and width.
You'll find that widening you driveway further back will decrease the size of the culvert. (making a longer funnel instead of a shorter one)

If you easily get the 18 wheeler into your equipment yard, then I would make it that wide. Those FM roads are often pretty narrow, I’d be more concerned about the trailers rear tires cheating and getting into the ditch upon exiting.

60'. That's a narrow county road and there won't be any room to "swing wide" before making the turn.

It was a joke. I got it, obviously you didn't. Your posts get old. You complain about him not contributing to the forum, but you are in the exact same boat. Just go away.

60'. That's a narrow county road and there won't be any room to "swing wide" before making the turn. 60 foot would damn near be a highway. The CR I live on, if 2 people pulling trailers meet head on, one has to drop into the ditch or chance rubbing trailers

I would love to do that but the county won't let that happen. Not any permits for building or inspections but you do have to have a permit for culvert, and they want me to upgrade the road but that is another conversation.
This is the unincorporated hunt county You must be the only honest man out there getting a permit. Years ago as you know permits were not required out of City limits. Most people I know that have County property still don’t get a permit. Best of luck.

Only a permit for septic tank, so at this point of would rather be on the good side of the county. I am putting three driveways into the property
