Started the weekend off with decent size boar that cross my shooting lane at 45 yards. He was moving quickly and didn’t present a shot. About 10 minutes later he passed again behind the stand at 165 yards which is beyond my range. The boar circled back and re-entered the mesquites and disappeared again. Finally, after another 10 or so minutes he wondered back into the lane in front of my feeder at around 85 yards. I paced the shot just behind the ear and the disoriented hog made his way about 25 yards and dropped. I was able to place an insurance shot between the eyes. My best guess is he was close to 190lbs and having no odor I took the hinds and straps for sausage. Then last night I had a group come in and I was able to get a good shot on a mature doe at 115 yards. She made it 30 yards and piled up. The 144 grain hollowpoint bullet was lodged under the skin on the far side. I was really impressed with the lack of damage to surrounding tissues. Most times with my PB this shot would have blown out one or both the front quarters. Makes me rethink the whole power curve needed to take a whitetail.

So you shot a hog in the head and it traveled 25 yards? And you quartered / gut shot a doe?

So you shot a hog in the head and it traveled 25 yards? And you quartered / gut shot a doe? The doe was a lung liver shot. The bullet entered maybe 1 " above the heart. No guts were harmed.

Cool.
Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
