What is the best scope for $250 or less? Mainly used for squirrel hunting and just around the place. Thanks

Burris Fullfield II 3 x 9 is a pretty good scope for the price. Nikon Prostaff 3 x 9 is decent as well

Nikon is out of the scope business. Are you looking for a simple reticle? Dial for longer range? Or just keeping your shots to 75 yards and less?

Doug just got an entire case (about 70) of the discontinued Leupold FX-II 6x36 with wide duplex from the factory, at CameraLand. Running them for $299. I ordered another, and they were selling out pretty fast.

I have a 6x Leupold Gold Ring on my .22 mag. It is a great scope but not for close range shots. If I were to buy a new one, I would go with a 2x7 or something similar in a 2 or 2.5x-10 range.

I put a Simmons .22mag scope on my Stainless Marlin model 60 .22l.r. and am very impressed with it. Less than $100
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

If you are not getting a scope with adjustable focus, you may want to get one that has paralax set around 50-75 yards. A scope labeled as rimfire scope would fill the bill. There aren't many out there, but leupold has one.

There aren't many out there, but leupold has one. That's good advice for a .22 scope. We bought a Mueller APV for my wife's 10/22 a few years ago. She was shooting at an indoor league and needed something with a parallax range that would get down below 50 yards. The Mueller APV costs less than 150.00 new, has parallax adjustment that goes down to 10 yards and gets good online reviews. For the money, it's hard to beat for a .22 scope. .

I put a Nikon .22 scope on my Ruger 10/22 I call it the .22 scope because it says it's designed for .22 caliber rifles, but I forget the exact name of it. I also forget what I paid for it, so it might be outside the price range asked about. I've had a few other "cheaper" brands on it over the years and nothing comes close to how nice this scope is. I use it all the time on my land. We raise free range chickens and sell their eggs. Roosters are the devil and it's not uncommon to shoot a dozen of them at a time when they turn, and start attacking everything. That scope is always dead on.

I bought a Leupold 2-7 x 33mm and really like it for my 22 lr I have this scope, as well. It has come off of my CZ 457 Lux 22 LR a couple of times though. That small dovetail rail on that gun is difficult to mount scopes, but the actual scope itself is great for small varmints.
