I’ve been spending a lot of time in the northeast/midwest, lately. Mostly Ohio and Pennsylvania. What I’ve noticed more than anything else is that I can’t find a proper steak up here. I’ve been to a few places that were highly recommended by the locals. Some don’t even offer a ribeye. Some do. They’ve all failed to deliver what I consider even a decent steak. I was up here about ten years ago and encountered the same, though I don’t recall the particulars. At any rate, do the people up here just not know what a good steak is, or is it a difference in taste? I’m inclined to believe the former, but I try to keep an open mind.

They're yankees, so.......

They don't know what seasoning is either.

That sucks Sneaky. When you have your mind set on something and it just doesn’t happen, it sucks.

That’s what I’ve concluded.

A good cut of beef doesn’t need a lot of seasoning, but I feel like they don’t season it at all.

Outback is national but they may not be any near you.

Well, I go into it open-minded, but I don’t expect anything special. Most of these outfits can’t even get rare, right.

One thing about it is that their appetizers, sides, salads, etc. are almost always on point. Their steaks just suck.

Outback anywhere is not what I consider a steakhouse.

Agreed. I meant seasoning other food. Lots of bland food up North.

Google and I disagree on what I consider a steakhouse? Well, they lost that race right out of the gates.

I’d give it a step and a half, but the point is valid.

Funny you mention that. I’ve only had a few prime ribs in my life. They always sound amazing but never live up to my expectations. I’ve yet to pass through California, but if I happen to do so in the northern section, I’ll make it a point to try their prime rib.

The food up North lacks flavor for a Texas native because the ground where the grass and vegetables grow is not preseasoned with petroleum. If you want a good example try the wine in Longview; and wait for the aftertaste.

Was in Wisconsin last February. Figured I’d go to outback to be safe. Was I ever wrong. Their steak was totally different than it is at the outback here. Real disappointment when I wasn’t expecting much to start with.

I'm always working in Northern California and every Sunday I treat myself to prime rib and have never been disappointed. Honestly there is a whole lot that reminds me of Texas of the early 80's out there kinda crazy

A chef told me years ago; it’s just a piece of meat until you season it.
