There is a pretty good story, but the primary reason I can remember the date is because my half sister was born on the same day I met her.

She and her roommate had just moved into the apartment behind mine (shared wall). On June 11, 1984, her parking lot happened to be full, so she parked on our side and walked around to her apartment. Two of my roommates and I were standing outside drinking and shooting the breeze, and when she walked by she looked at me, gave me a big smile, and said “hi” to me. One of my roommates (Robby) swore she was looking at him, but the other roommate and I knew better and told him so. I saw her again later in the evening, officially met her, and cleared up the fact that she was looking at and talking to me. I asked her out and we’ve been together ever since.

The prequel to the story is that we actually saw her and her roommate a couple of weeks earlier while cruising Camp Bowie (I’m sure there are a lot of guys here who know all about that). My wife was driving her car and I was driving mine with my roommates. I pulled up next to them to talk and almost immediately Robby told them “we have our own apartment”. My wife looked at her roommate, laughed, and sped off. We damn near threw his socially awkward butt out on the side of the road for that. When I saw her the night I actually met her I immediately recognized her from that incident.

We had a lot of laughs about that whole thing over the years. We also firmly believed it had to be fate because of the way it all happened.

Grizz have you ever seen the movie dazed and confused? There is a scene where they are out cruising chicks and one of the guys says “check ya later” to some girls they were talking with. After he said it all the guys started dogging him for being such a dork. Your buddy Robby sounds like that guy.

He was definitely that guy. Great dude otherwise though.
