Anybody done a "over the counter" New Mexico Aoudad hunt on public land. Or even the draw i guess on public land.

How did it go, what unit, time of year, etc.

Tag looks to be about $380 which is pretty cheap compared to $3,000 to hunt one in Texas on private.

Thoughts ?

I drew, leaving in a few weeks.

Saw a few last week while hunting mule deer.


The OTC units are mostly private. Put in for the Areas with Big Horns as their are more tags so better draw ability.

Don’t look at Texas Aoudads and expect that in NM

If hunting public lands, expect company. Lots of it.

From what I heard expect much, much smaller sheep than here in Texas.

From what I understand pressure in them is high as well and numbers are low
