WTF? You mean that place , once owned by that Austin Twin Peaks wannabe, that didn't last one year, has had life breathed into it again? You know, that original store was operated by a Nazi spy? oldrancher can confirm. He knows a lot more about it than I do. It was basically a stage stop. 'Never made it to "town" status. Luckenbach is a Metropolis, compared to Bankersmith.

By the by, 'got sick after eating at Alamo Springs...twice. Gotta clean the grill more often. Locals called Alamo Springs "Hippie Hollow".

Bankersmith is a hopping place now. Live bands, crawfish boils, food trucks. It sold two years ago and the new owners have done a hell of a job

This thread inspired me to go to Fredericksburg next month with the wife

Does anyone know if Friedhelms takes dinner reservations? I have tried calling and don't get an answer.

Hilltop cafe on the Mason hwy just west of town. Great cajun food and entertainment by the owner, Johnny Nicholas, ex piano player for asleep at the wheel. Cold Abita beer and real cajun cuisine, what could be better?

We are going there to paint the town red over Valentine's Weekend.

My wife and I have targeted the Fredericksburg area for our next Short Term rental investment property. Do most of you that go use those types of properties or use the Bed and Breakfast types of properties that are out there?

We go through AirBnb/VRBO, I don't care for bed and breakfast, places. I don't really like the breakfast with random people with along with only served at a certain time.

Thanks again THF. All the tips were a big help. Had a nice weekend in Fburg.

Fburg was a happening place for a no special event weekend. Very crowded masks required, restaurants were at full capacity. The popular places could not get in. Guess you need reservations two weeks out. Our shortest wait was 45 minutes. The German Bakery was three hours...no way. The breweries, wineries and distilleries were booked out for lunch but you could get snacks at the tastings. Had a good time but the dining was really not enjoyable. Just too damned crowded.

If you are planning a trip for Vday you may want to look at dinner reservations NOW.

So, if Fredericksburg is that crowded - give me a nice HIll Country town for a get away that you would go to.

Llano is a good place to visit. San Saba, Burnet, Marble Falls. Just depends on what you want to do or see.

Get ready to pay out the nose for that.

I’ll save you some money and sell you a ranch if that works
