Any predictions on the end of the ammo shortage? Other than shotgun shells for upland birds and waterfowl, I haven't seen any of the centerfire ammo I use for almost three months.
Well, go stand in line at your local Academy each morning and pick up 3 boxes per caliber of whatever they have. They get new stuff daily.
Depends if they actual do enough research to understand what an armor piercing round is. Since basically any round above a .223 will penetrate body armor I wouldn’t doubt it if someone actually figures it out and gives it a try.
You know, I have done that research and don't recall "body armor" being included anywhere in there. https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/921(17) (A)The term “ammunition” means ammunition or cartridge cases, primers, bullets, or propellent powder designed for use in any firearm. (B)The term “armor piercing ammunition” means— (i)a projectile or projectile core which may be used in a handgun and which is constructed entirely (excluding the presence of traces of other substances) from one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium; or (ii)a full jacketed projectile larger than .22 caliber designed and intended for use in a handgun and whose jacket has a weight of more than 25 percent of the total weight of the projectile. (C)The term “armor piercing ammunition” does not include shotgun shot required by Federal or State environmental or game regulations for hunting purposes, a frangible projectile designed for target shooting, a projectile which the Attorney General finds is primarily intended to be used for sporting purposes, or any other projectile or projectile core which the Attorney General finds is intended to be used for industrial purposes, including a charge used in an oil and gas well perforating device.
Like I was saying, just wait until they figure out that they can classify any round as "armor piercing", or when someone decides armor piercing includes body armor....

As many of you have done, I have been doing as much industry research as I can and what seems to be constant is the ammo manufactures are producing as much as they can providing that they can get the components. One very interesting conversation with marketing rep. for Weatherby in Sheridan, WY: "we cannot get brass" due to ongoing strikes in South America. All have said that most likly we are looking at 2 years to get back to normal supply and demand. Politics aside, of course.

The new Remington ammo factory that is being built at the Port of Little Rock should come online in 6 months or so. That should help or at least keep us even. That is if raw material is available to build ammo. You would think if they Were building a new plant they would have plans for raw material.

I bought a new crossbow. Shooting in the yard with it is cheap, easy. Plus, its deadly on deer and hogs. You just can't shoot very far. I'm saving my rifle ammo for now. I reload, and have enough components to last a long time, if I don't go crazy shooting.
Thanks,
Marty

If your having trouble finding ammo, quit shooting for fun. If you don’t shoot for fun, then you should have enough on hand to last you two years of hunting, otherwise you didn’t plan at all and you can pay the ridiculous prices of the modern ammo world.

Yeah, we will probably need to get a back ground check before we can get a box of ammo! With a 7 day waiting period. And the casings will include a number that makes them traceable. Your home computer printer prints a code on every piece of paper so the Feds can trace it back to the serial number and hence, back to you, so remember to handwrite all of your ransom notes. I don't get the running from the bogeyman that so permeates everything today... Charlie

I was at Academy today for some jig heads and found a box of Hornady Black 40’s that someone had set down by the tackle boxes. I didn’t need any since I don’t own any guns but I took it over to the ammo shelf and set there with nobody watching and then walked off. It took less than 20 seconds for someone to find it and grab it. LOL

Good lord. That auction I cited yesterday is still going and the bid is up to $1525 for 200 rounds of 6.5 PRC which is $7.62 per round. Utter lunacy! I'll bookmark it and see how it ends up. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/889452592

Ration your ammo. When hunting hogs, make sure you can line up at least 2 in the sounder. Pull trigger, 2 down with one shot.

The auction got a little crazier and the winning bid was $1625 for 200 rounds of 6.5 PRC. That is over $8 per round or $162.50 per box....just goes to show the power of the law of supply and demand (or the stupidity of people although I guess some people have more money than sense and can spend it how they want.)

Not sure how much time they lost in bankruptcy, employees were not recalled by Vista to go back to work until last November at the main plant.

The ammo thing is challenging, but not impossible. I guess it depends on the caliber you are shooting, but I have managed to score plenty of 30-06 over the past 2 months - everything from target ammo to fancy hunting ammo. Check the ammo search engines frequently, and be quick on the trigger.

Academy guy told me they had a meeting back in August and they were told that ammo would be caught up be the end of the year. Then before Christmas he said they were looking at April. I haven't asked him again but I bet it isn't April anymore.

I have been seeing hunting ammo at the boutique gun places in my area. Apache Rifle Works in Comfort had lots of specialty hunting loads in stock when I was there yesterday, Mission Ridge in San Antonio usually has the hunting loads in stock, and my brother in law says he can usually get hunting ammo out in Kerrville were he lives at Hill Country Arms Inc on Sidney Baker St. The Big Box stores are hit and miss as a lot of ammo hoarders are buying up everything to resell like it is a full time job. The real difficult ammo to find is 9mm or anything pistol cartridges, 5.56mm, 300BLK, and the usually cheap 7.62x39 steel cased cheap Russian junk that was plentiful before all the madness. I’m not seeing any light at the end of the tunnel but I can still find .308WIN albeit at $2 a round at a minimum.
