I shoot black powder pistols (revolver, percussion and flintlock) in line matches at 25 and 50 yards. I have been using a .22 auto for a lot of years to practice with since I do not have to clean it at the end of each practice session. It has been shot so much; the rifling for the most part is gone.

I have been considering replacing it with a new pistol.

Needs in a pistol would be good trigger, good sights and 6” to 8” barrel for use at above yardage. What would be three (3) makes and models to look at? Olympic grade pistol is not needed.

Thanks for your thoughts.

No one will say it. How much do you want to spend. That will decide what you buy. Accuracy cost how accurate do you want it

The feel of a Ruger Mark IV will catch your attention, not to mention the accuracy once you get the chance to shoot one. I have the heavy-barreled Target model and love it.

Ruger 22/45 mark IV is hard to beat. VQ trigger and done. Buckmarks are fine for playing with but not much more.

Walther PPQ .22 is probably the best non completion on the market. Definitely the best trigger.

That would be the first .22 I have ever really heard of that had the rifling shot out of it.

Lead bullets out of a .22 at .22 pressures just don't wear down a barrel. More likely one could be worn down from improper/too much cleaning. Or maybe it needs a good cleaning?

If you want a new .22, the Ruger Target is hard to beat.

I've had S&W and Browning auto loaders. Neither cycled ammo better than my 52 year old Ruger Standard. This thing blows through magazine after magazine of any ammo I've ever tried with no jamming or ftf. I settled on CCI. Accuracy for all wasn't noticeably different to me. All of them hit dime sized dots at 21'. I bought it used for $200.00 as I recall. I've also found a work around that allows me to use new magazines to go with the original I have. It involves a chain saw sharpening file. That's for another post.

An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I converted my MKIII 22-45 into a MKII with guts from Volquartsen. It has a 5.5" bull barrel and the adjustable trigger breaks at just under two pounds.

I got one for the wife to practice with. We both shoot the heck out of it. Like you said REALLY nice trigger and plenty accurate.

Not my experience at all, I own both and the buckmark shoots everything without issue and doesn’t require a trigger job like the rugers

Let’s hear about them then....or your post is worthless to the op......I own a lot of .22 pistols and for the price I stand by my post..... and I’ll be happy to shoot target with my buckmark against any pistol you want to use in the same price range stock out of the box .....for a Ben Franklin to the winner, lol!

He was talking about STI, Wilson Combat, and Les Bear. Didn't even know they made 22 pistols.
