Rifle: Stainless Featherweight 270win Scope: VX5HD 3-15x44
Need help on rings-- the VX5HD has a short mounting surface forward of the turrets. That tube is just so short. I do want to run a 2 piece mounting system.
I'm looking at Talley lightweight lows but they offer an 'extended' version that brings the front ring/mount back slightly. Can anyone confirm which will work for that scope?
I think the Leupold Dual Dovetail might be the only other option before a rail/rings.

Can I ask, why do you want lightweight rings?
That's a great scope, I have one. My personal preference is Warne for rings.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

Call Talley, their great folks and can tell you exactly what you need. Why guess at it??

For this rifle in particular I want the aesthetic of two piece system and I'm not crazy about the Leupold STD or DD system compared to Talley.

Called them before posting-- the gentleman suggested low over extra low because of potential bolt clearance and ocular issues-- but he could not tell me if the regular lightweights would work as opposed to the 'extended' which moves the ring portion rearward, allowing for more adjustment room on scopes with short bodies.

I’d buy both and send the one not needed back then, if they couldn’t tell you then I can almost guarantee you anything you get on here is nothing more than a guess.

May have to order both and send one back. I have a set of M70 Talleys but I think they're 1", not 30MM, or I'd send them to you. The good thing is you can mount them as (distance between rings) Short, Long, and Medium toward you/Medium away from you by turning them around. Short = _P P_ Long = P_ _P Med away = _P _P Med toward = P_ P_

Going to order the extended version-- a fellow on LRH posted a pic of his VX6HD in talleys on a Model 70 L/A. The standards will work but it will be tight and little room for adjustment.
The extended version should allow a little play in mounting distance and the low will allow for bolt clearance of the ocular.
Pics to follow when they get here and it is all mocked up.
