A few days ago I shot a coyote in a grassy field using this scope. It was 5:40 PM, 180 yards. In this fading light, it was only the fast movement of the silhouette that I could see, couldn't tell exactly what it was. I was seated on the ground, and while quickly moving to prone I made a lot of noise and movement. I lost sight and went to my scope, found him, facing me head on. This dog had heard, or saw me moving and while trying to figure out what I was turned to face me, as I shot actually stepping slowly in my direction. I've used this scope a lot over the last few years. It really makes it bones in situations like this. The clarity and detail wasn't as good as the flash provided by the Iphone 11 used to take the pic, but in a few seconds I went from not being 100% sure what I'd be looking at, to seeing a coyote as if it was 15-20 minutes earlier. I also dial the CDS often on stuff way out there. Best hunting scope I've ever owned. [Linked Image]

I’m really fond of my scope, which is the same as yours. The low light use seems to be as good, if not better than my Leica binocs (not new ones). For years, with those same binocs, I could find critters, but then couldn’t find them in the scope. Those days are over now.

Same scope I used to shoot a hog at 300 yards in extremely dim light. I knew it was 300 yards, so I dialed it, clicked on the fire dot and shot his piggy self. I could not have done that as well or easily with any other scope I own. Only problem in that whole process was that I had to use a small flashlight to find the 300 yard mark on the turret. Immediately after that I bought a roll of glow in the dark tape, cut some tiny triangles and stuck them on top of the turret at 200, 250, and 300 yards. Works great.

Just got a new Tikka CTR and was leaning towards this exact scope. I appreciate the review(s)....this solidified my decision!

What reticle are you using? I think I am going with the duplex, but open to feedback on that as well.

Thank you!

I have two of the V5HDx (3-15x44). One is on a Savage 110 Storm and the other on a T3X; both in 6.5 CM.

Glass quality is top notch. I did go with the CDS on the Tikka's. Both have been rock solid from a dialing perspective. Regularly take them out to 1000 yards.

Get a firedot, it's worth the extra $100 or so.

So I probably need to look through one more thoroughly, but is the fire dot "thicker" than the normal duplex? (and may cover the target a bit more)

I’d say it’s about the same size as the duplex in my other Leupolds, I can say for certainty that it doesn’t cover the target to much, the firedot is a must have for hunting. I don’t like my other scopes after buying these.

And another, ruined this guys dinner. When I saw him on the move at what turned out to be 190 yards I thought he had a crow in his mouth. I had my CDS on 200. In this set up, there's no time to use my range finder then dial, so I put it on 200 and leave it there and pre range 300 yards so if I need to I can adjust hold. Check out that feast he was about to have: [Linked Image]

Outstanding scopes. Just put one on my 25-06 this season.

Shot a very small pig at 100 yards a few days ago. Very cloudy out and about 2 minutes before legal shooting light was up (for deer). It was DARK. Was easy to see thru scope and shoot. Fire Dot is a must have.

Haven't really gotten to dial it yet but dialing it on paper to check impact points, it goes right back where it's supposed to be.

I'm more than impressed. Going to buy a second one for my son's rifle.

That's the type of light gathering information that really gives a good idea of what to expect in a hunting scenario. I also have the VX6 in 50mm. Dial that one down to 3x in the early AM or late evening and you really extend your hunting time.

I don’t think you’ll find much variance in price. They’re $999.99. I would check with Doug at cameraland. Call him. Availability is the biggest issue.

Ive found 3 different places selling them for sub $850. Im just not familiar with any of them and if they are legit.
