I want to know what y’all think. As it stands now, I only ordered this multipack because it had 3 that I wanted. The others, I’ve never even heard of. This is a project for me and my son(my son and me?) and we are both pretty stoked.
I am definitely using the red cherry, Roma and beefsteak.
1) I don’t mind not using any of the rest this season but if there are any you recommend, please do.
2) are there any that you would recommend as your favorite tomato based on quality of harvest as well as best flavor and/or ability to use in the kitchen?

Delicious (aka Large Red Delicious) get big and put out a lot of fruit. Plants 6-7 ft tall from what I've read, have to support them. I haven't grown these yet but I will one of these days.

I would add Celebrity to your list. I grew them for several years, and they consistently put out good looking tasty tomatoes.

I have also grown Jubilee, but it's been so long I can't remember what I thought about them.

Beefsteak. I like my tomato slice to cover the whole sandwich.

Don't skimp on the compost or garden soil. I put a hand full of wood ash mixed well in each hill. Haven't had blossom end rot in years.

I don’t even know how small it is sir. To keep it simple, we’re going with the 5gal bucket per plant method. Is mostly morning sun (after 8-9ish) and goes through 1-3PM. with any direst sun. Otherwise, the house shades it from the super hot direct sun in the summer after then.

I have a big shady pecan tree near mine. I got lucky. There is a bee hive in the hollow of the tree.

Most of those tomatoes are going to grow to 3-5 feet. They'll need airflow and direct sunlight for 8 hours a day. Their root system will be wider than a five gallon bucket. You might want to use the hot tub or look into planters for them.

I’m doing this little by little but I’m going to buy the best soil, peat moss, and other additives I can afford soon. I have the cages and need a few more buckets but I’m also thinking I need to buy me a blow dart gun and rid the yard of squirrels. They did me in a few years ago and with my son involved, I want him to see it through to harvest.

I have some blood meal, bone meal, some fish stuff, and I may buy some worm castings too.

Dang. You really think so? I don’t care to use the yard. I’ll just have to convince her.

The five gallon bucket restricts the roots. Do you know any one with cows that have lick tubs?

I grew them in a small backyard garden years ago. I used 3 landscape timbers. I cut one in half and made a 4#8 foot bed. I planted 3 tomatoes in there. It worked fine for me.

Cherokee Purple have great flavor.

And raised beds are hard to beat.

Good advice there. I've grown some very nice pepper plants in 5 gallon buckets (or smaller), but I've never had much luck growing tomatoes in buckets. Gave that up, tomatoes do much better in the ground or in a raised bed.

Just tell your wife how it's going to be, that worked great for me.

For a medium size tomato that can take the heat I would recommend the Calypso from the selection you have. If you can find any Tycoon that would be one of the best for our heat in a medium size.
For a cherry size tomato, the Gardener's Delight is a good one as well and will produce spring through the summer.
Payne is absolutely correct, a 5g bucket will limit the roots of the plant which will limit the size of the plant which will limit the amount of fruit it will produce.

Good luck and keep us posted of the progress!

Not trying to rain on your parade bullfrog but slow down and look at the bigger picture if space and sun is limited.

I do better at doing what I want, hear about it and apologizing later. That’s what l end up doing here. By gosh, the boy wants to grow tomatoes, he’s gonna! Lol

Should I be asking which plants do better in buckets?
