I thought Gregg was crazy when he re-did Midnight Rider but I must admit his version has grown on me over the years. Still prefer the original but his remake is pretty cool as well.

Lynyrd Skynyrd took southern rock to a whole other level...the Allman Brothers were very good but by no means as good as Skynyrd especially after Duane passed.

Marshall Tucker Band has the best southern rock song (Can’t You See) but Skynyrd has the better overall catalogue. Lynyrd Skynyrd is the best southern rock band. Marshall Tucker and Allman Brothers Band are close. .38 Special, Molly Hatchet are behind them. The Outlaws are the most underrated southern rock band.

Saw Skynyrd live in Denver in either 76 or 77 on the Free Bird Tour. For Southern Rock they have always been #1 for be. But I'm also a fan of the Allman Brothers, Black Oak Arkansas, Marshall Rucker Band etc... I'll listen to them all from time to time.

If I'm gonna be stranded on a desert island the rest of my life and can only choose the catalog of one of those two bands, it's a no-brainer for me. Allman Bros all day long and twice on sunday.

Strange no one has mentioned ZZ Top. I consider Texas part of the south,at least east Texas anyway. ZZ Top probably has more hits than any band mentioned so far.
