I was lucky enough to draw a doe/spike slot on next weeks rifle hunt at Lake Brownwood state park. Just looking at the satellite map of it, it looks like a couple of the elevated towers have feeders. Even though I was taking my tailgate feeder to feed the area I hunt, I was just curious to know If there are feeders at a couple hunting blind locations. Also, has anyone stayed in a screened in shelter there? I've never stayed in a state park shelter before, but I am assuming there is just a concrete floor, with no beds of any kind. Thanks for any feed back on this, have a Happy New Year, and Good Hunting!.

Well I have stayed in the "shelters" and yes empty, concrete floor and screened. Bring a powerful heater. I used one of the ones that sits on top of a 15 pound propane tank.

I noticed that a lot of people who stay in them during the colder months put up tarps on the inside to help trap heat.

I don't remember having feeders. I believe we had to spread our own corn. The stand I was in was not elevated but was in fair condition. Lots of deer at that place. Good luck!

I just got back from our hunt at Lake Brownwood State Park yesterday. I was in the 2nd group that hunted from 1/13-1/15. First group left as we were arriving. First group shot 17 deer, and 2 hogs. There were several button bucks in their 17 deer total. The wind ended up playing a big part of our lack of hunting success, not to mention the fact that there was a considerable amount of shooting by the group ahead of us! Our group ended up with 8 deer, and if i remember, 2 of them were button bucks. Several hogs also killed. I chose not to kill anything, but had the opportunity at a mature doe the last morning, but she would not present me with an ethical shot. She was 70 yards away, behind some brush. Also chose not to shoot a couple 6 month old deer, since so many had already been taken earlier. I ended up renting a cabin, because the screened in shelters were not available. Glad I did! There were feeders at each stand location, as well as pop up blinds. The staff was great, as with all the other type one hunts I have ever been on. I believe John said they would have to evaluate next years hunt there, since the hunters set a record for most deer taken in one season.I think 5 bucks were killed during the youth hunt, and am not sure if there were any does taken. Also not sure about the archery hunt earlier, either.
