With the price of ammo these days I have discovered that in many cases the value of my ammo for a particular caliber exceeds the value of the gun. At what point does one clean out the safe and throw the guns on the shelf and fill the safe with ammo?
I am only joking but am serious about the values. It is ridiculous. $80+ seems to be the going rate for a 20 round box of decent hunting ammo.

Great point. I hadn’t think of it that way. My 223 ammo alone is probably 5 times the worth of the rifle, maybe more. Probably double for the 22

Just hang on - it will correct as it has in the past Don't be kidding yourself. I think the next 4 years will be a killer on ammo and firearm prices. Glad I'm caught up on both.

Buy 5 boxes of ammo and get a fee gun? Like they used to do at gas stations years ago with a fill up.

I think we will be seeing a large liberal tax on all ammo.

I think we will be seeing a large liberal tax on all ammo. Big time and immediately. The Guns are next.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I think we will be seeing a large liberal tax on all ammo. No doubt..... And then a big time shortage just as we did a few years ago when .22 rimfire couldn't be found and when it could was $150-$200 for a brick.

I think ammo shortages will continue indefinitely through this administration, EVERYONE is buying in bulk and putting pressure on demand. The current shortage caught me early during the pandemic without enough ammo for my .270 hunting rifle. Normally, I buy a box of the nice stuff a year or a box every two years, as I rarely shoot more than 10 bullets out of that rifle a year, and usually do so by walking into Academy or Bass Pro or Hoffspauer. Everywhere I looked was out and I was starting to panic, so when I as finally able to find some ammo (directly though Federal Premium, expensive and expensive to ship) I bought four boxes of the nice stuff and ended up spending $200+ in one sitting. OUCH!
Conversely, I usually hunt hogs with my AR, but I've avoided doing so this season because I don't have enough of the good stuff for it. Less practice at the range, too, to conserve the cheap 9mm and cheap .223. It's crazy!
I do believe that *eventually* the production will catch up with demand, but as long as all of us are spooked and prone to stock up, it's going to take a very long time to see stocked shelves again. It took years to get .22 down to regular levels/prices and this time it's EVERY caliber.

I think we are in for a rough go on Guns, Ammo, Reloading supplies, especially primers the next few years. During the Obama years, I figured it would come back around and it did. In this day and time, I am not so sure.
I made a prediction, its only a matter of time before the Russian Wolf Primers which are not longer allowed to be imported will hit the the US black market. To much money in it not to happen.
Only time will tell.
Thanks, Billy

It is irritating when you read an accuracy related reloading article about how great the russian primers are, all the loading data in the article used russian primers, and they are no where to be found and haven't been available for several years. I hope they come back. Just my .02, LeonCarr

No doubt man It's truly a damn shame the direction we are headed in this country. My son is finishing up his bachelor's in business and had wanted to start his own gunsmithing and gun shop but is not looking in a different direction simply because of all the BS going on in our country. It's a shame to because he is very, very good at it and built his first AR from the ground up when he was 12 years old and has been working on guns since well before that.

I've never kept bulk ammo until this year and by bulk I only mean a couple hundred rounds of each. I am not a target shooter and could care less for having FMJ's in any caliber. That said, I did finally score 200 rounds of 223 that were FMJ, just to have some. My 25-06 is my go to deer/hog gun and with only a box of 20 left, I began to panic. I finally found some at Academy, 3 box limit but I grabbed them. $113.00 later for the Hornady Performance 117 and I feel a little better. I'll probably buy a couple more but this has been a lesson learned the hard way.

The problem is, I don’t know who my local importers are, of illegal substance. I’m sure if the money is there we can get primers from Mexico, but how will we know about it or where, who is selling?
