Hahaha, if buying good ammo makes a duck hunter go broke they need a new hobby!

Yall sound like a bunch of dumb a$$e$!

I dont know if you have looked around in the world of duck hunting, but Sitka has made its mark in it. And guess what, I wear Sitka, I also wear drake and crap from years back. I also shoot Boss, and other steel shot. So who gives a $hit!

I'd prolly be willing to bet that most the guys on here that run their mouths about what other are wearing or shooting are either jealous of it or go out and buy the crap right after they talk crap about it.

It just gets old seeing that on here all the time.

Sinkey recommending sitka and boss to every cat coming along asking for suggestions to get started is foolish. Calm down.

Plus kwood is a bag

I don't even know what a sitka is. Is that the newest pink camo pattern?

lets see

What do I shoot- whatever flies at daylight
What do I wear- whatever still fits
What shell do I shoot- whatever is left in the bag from the following season or is on sale
Do I kill any birds- back to question #1

So he asked for recommendations and recommending the best gear on the market is the wrong thing to do?
Buy once cry once.
If you buy drake, banded, etc, and ever try sitka you will start updating everything in your closet to sitka. So that means you bought twice, and neither banded or drake have a high resell value. Doesn't seem logical.

Sinkey, don't be getting the poors riled up!

I know where they're coming from, I used to question sitka, then I bought some.
My Hudson jacket is 5 times less bulky than the equivalent drake jacket I had. Can't believe warmth comes in that small of a package.

I hope this is true. Treebass may actually get back in to duck hunting. His Theragram-M has helped him with dealing with the cold.

I dunno i just dont get this whole subforum, I almost exclusively duck hunted for years, and still do a bit. I did it with Winchester super x steel shot, my usmc field coat over a pair of oshmans rubber waders and killed ducks by the hundreds...if I hadda good dog I still would although I have better waders!0

I have been hunting waterfowl for 40 years and the first time I ever heard of a Sitka is this thread. I was hunting in a 20-30 year old Carhart coat and a surplus winter helmet liner full of holes this morning. I could not tell you the brand name of any other piece of hunting cloths I had on. The Ithaca I was hunting with I bought at a pawn shop in 1984 and has several coats of krylon on it. I too will never understand the need to constantly upgrade to the latest greatest matching designer camo the TV guys are paid to wear.

Cheap camo sweatshirt/ T-shirt and blue jeans is my normal attire.
Unless I need to be in the water and have my cheap academy waders.
Oh and monarch #4 steel is the poison.

Kwood, he seems to have disappeared or is he busy shooting birds?

They have made clothing into gear essentially. Their warmth to weight ratio is incredible. You have a lot less puffiness to stay warm.

Is it noble to hunt as if one is poor?

I have never said Sitka gear is not good and I don't believe anyone else has ever said that. I like busting Kwoods chops because he recommends Sitka and Boss to guys asking questions regarding going on their first duck hunt or possibly getting into it. I and others have recommended more economical options as we know duck hunting is not for everyone. While I like to buy once and cry once, I just don't see the sense in buying $1k waders, $500 dollar jacket, $200+ shells to see if you like duck hunting. I have upgraded some of my gear, but I have also kept some stuff to loan out to guys wanting to try it out. Did I have some uncomfortable mornings when I first started out, of course I did. I made adjustments and upgraded where I felt necessary. Outside of waders or hip boots, if you have a good hide you could basically hunt in whatever you wanted.

Sinkey may need to lighten up a tad.

I think it's more of, if you can't hit them with regular ol steel shot, then YOU need to find a new hobby! roflmao
If you think you have to spend big money to kill a flying animal then that's on you.. Not my wallet. I just have to make fun of the insanity

The problem is, no one is gonna say "wow look at that guy" and give the ooos and ahhs when they see you walk into the corner store at 4am wearing a Carhartt and blue jeans. It's all about the mindset that you are putting the impression on others that you mean business, but the reality is that no one around you gives a [censored].. It's just a psychological thing I guess.
