I tagged out with my last two doe tags during the week. I watched a youtube video on cutting up a deer shoulder. I never thought of this method, it could not be any easier. Here it is: Cut the shoulder in half (there is a joint in the middle) your are done. With this method, it is meant to be cooked in an oval shaped crock pot, which I did today. I also save the rear shanks for the crock pot. Thought I would pass this on.

Lots of great videos on YouTube on how to break down a deer and process into different cuts. Started last season, enjoying the cuts more now knowing Iโ€™ve put the work in and itโ€™s the animal I shot.

What internal temp does this need to get to? Do you serve it sliced or shredded like pulled pork?

You can smoke to around 140 and slice, or finish in the oven with some liquid until it pulls to your liking.

I will say you need the shoulder off a decent-size deer to make it worth your while. Or do both shoulders off a smaller deer.
