So I should tell everyone to shoot all 8 points over 3 years old?

Nice looking bucks, they are definitely related!

I wouldnt if they score high, like 140 or whatever is big for your situation. We kill mgmt bucks based on BC score regardless of points. If hes got 10 points and scores real low hes gone. Not to improve genetics but just to get a mouth off that likely will never develop to "our" Trophy status. Plus we have guys that enjoy shooting a 120" 5 yr old 10 pt so its gives them some trigger time while they wait on the always rare exception to the rule big boys.

Genetics do get passed on. Myself working on improving my Ibex have seen first hand how you can improve what you are raising. But it is not as easy as it may seem to be plus it takes many years. Myself with the Ibex I just use certain males for the breeding. In the WT world that would be next to impossible unless the deer were in pens. Next I remove as many females as were born that year. If I raised 10 females then I sell 10 of the oldest. That way the ones I keep have more of the genetics I want. Again this would be hard but not impossible in the WT world. TLK, the other lease holders and the landowner have done a heck of a job with improving the WT quality on their place.

I'm not a scientist so I can only relate what I've seen.

Around about 1985 I shot a nice whitetail, scored around 140. Nothing special but good eating.

Forward ten years or so, shot a better buck, rough scored 168 as I recall. I put the two racks side by each and they looked for all the world like they came off the same animal, right down to a odd swell in the right main beam between the G3 and G4.

Do for yourself as much as you can, eat what nature provides as much as you can. This is the key to sleeping well and living long.
