I just got back into hunting after 20+ years. Now that dove season is over, is there anywhere around DFW to hunt wild quail? I've seen all the different preserves and ranches, but I'm just looking for somewhere to go on weekend mornings for a couple hours. From what I've read the population is pretty depleted up here so I'm just looking for any tips y'all may have.

Thanks in advance.

The chances are less than 1% of you finding what you are looking for. Best bet is to settle for a preserve and shoot tame birds.

We got what you want and I cover 2 to 1 you do not hit all you shoot at with the tame birds.

We got great flying birds and reasonable quail hunt.

A couple of good spots I hunted often back when I still lived up in the DFW area.

The OP did say wild quail.

And our replies are indicative of there not really being any available to the public.

While this is not very timely for your original post...I do not know why no one mentioned that you should check out the Matador Wildlife area...?
They promote wild quail hunting.
This (2020) year it was not very good for us...but last few seasons were terrific!
Having good bird dogs is the key. My Nephews Britney's are well raised and trained...and we limited out!
If you don't have any...get a good local guide to make your time spent there more productive.

Find the Permits here - https://tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/hunt/public/annual_public_hunting/

A minute spent outdoors is so much more valuable than a day spent online!

Here is a photo from 2018 MWA hunt. Two guns and 5 Brit's took 44 birds in 6 days of hunting...a bunch of walking...but good dogs make it bearable!

Great dogs make it awesome!.

2020 was not a good year at Matador.
We had some luck on Youth Weekend, but it was a lot of dog and hunter miles between points.
We've been there twice since...once without firing a shot.

We all need to practice Whoa more.
