I'm sure its been asked and answered before but I can't find it in a search.

Is it legal to kill a deer, tag and quarter the deer, keep proof of sex all the way to your residence, debone the deer then take the meat to the processer deboned for processing?

This is what I've found on TWPD website:

"Deer or pronghorn may only be processed beyond quarters at a location that qualifies as a final destination."

"Final destination: The permanent residence of the hunter; the permanent residence of any other person receiving the animal/bird carcass part of an animal/bird carcass; or a cold storage or processing facility."

So I'm not sure if even though you took it to your home which can be a final destination it wouldn't be considered the final destination because you planned on taking it to the processer....then the next question is if you do take it home and debone it do you then have to maintain proof of sex until you take it to the processer if deboning at home is even an option? Now reading back through what I quoted it states "a location that qualifies as A final destination" not THE final destination.... am I interpreting that right or am I just seeing what I want to be able to debone at home?

Curious because it seems it is illegal to take deboned meat to the processer at all.

Any Game Wardens on this forum that can help answer this?

I don't know but I've seen it advertised at one place that they only take de-boned deer because its hard dispose of the bones.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Your home is the final destination. The tag and proof of sex must stay with the bones, not the meat. Once deboned at home it IS legal to take your deboned meat to the processor without the tag or proof of sex.

I would have never guessed that. I dropped off the 4 quarters at a processor once and kept the backstraps. The processor person asked if I wanted to take the tags home since I was keeping some of the meat. I told them no but I hoped the receipt from the drop off would suffice if were to be stopped.

I have deboned both elk and deer, vacuum sealed it, and put it in my garage freezer. Later, once I had additional freezer space, I took that meat to Kuby's and had them make sausage. I no longer had the tag and in one instance, it was the next calendar year. I have done this twice and it was not an issue at all.

Back when I used processors and dropped off bone in quarters, none of them ever cared about the tags or proof of sex. Never asked for tags.

The last time I used a processor and dropped off bone in quarters they asked for my tag. I said that was never needed before at other places...explained to me that “legally” the tag stays with the bones, not the meat. Said they got checked by GW’s pretty often and if the meat was deboned at home (final destination) and brought in no tag was needed.

Thanks for the info. I normally don't drop anything at the processor but on our MLD program we had more than I could do and I took a bunch of our guys deer to be dropped off. They didn't ask me for resource documents but I had them just in case. They did take all the tags.

I have never seen a processor yet that kept tags, once your info was entered into their log.Typically your name, address, license number, and type animal is required for their license.

This is correct. And a processor has no reason to ever proof of sex when dropping a deer off.
