I took this buck in the very northern part of Medina County in the hill country on a lf place. He looked to be the oldest of the 3 ten pointers I was seeing. The processor/taxidermist aged him as being between 8.5 and 9.5 years old. Called him Methusalah. Hope I dont break a tooth on his gravy! [Linked Image]

Thanks. Yes, this one definitely had time to spread his genes. I actually had a 4.5-5.5 year old 11 point this season that I let walk. Hopefully I see him next season. No guarantees obviously, but the only way to shoot old bucks is to let the young ones walk. Our lease group is doing better with that than we used to.

Having all lease members on the same page is critical to getting anything done. Then hopefully that "page" you are all on is one with realistic expectations. Not that I know anything but since you are new I thought I would throw some basics at you from my point of view. Once again, welcome, this forum is very very informative if you are wanting to learn stuff, and entertaining.

Thanks! I appreciate it. I actually had been on here probably 10 years ago but lost/forgot my old login info and had to create a new account. We have just 5 hunters on the 1100 acre ranch and share fence lines with a couple of well managed ranches that are much much larger than ours. Our main concern right now is that we only had a 38% fawn survival rate last year with hogs and coyotes being the main factors in that.

Great looking deer to.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I had salami, fresh link, chorizo and hamburger made from it. I did have one backstrap left whole and the other cut into tenderized steaks. Hopefully they will be good after a 24 hour soak in buttermilk. But we will see.

Great harvest. Now if you can just get everybody else to let the babies grow up you'll have lots of grand pa's to chose from!

We are making strides. Here is the buck I took in 2019. Taxidermist said he was 7.5-8.5 years old.
