For those that hunt regularly with a Thermal for hogs, do you zero the scope at 50 or 100 yards? I can see the benefit of zeroing at 50 as it would be a bit high at 100 to mitigate slight range estimation errors but not sure what the experienced folks do.

I zero all my night vision and thermal at 100.

But differently from my scoped hunting rifles that I usually zero 1" high at 100 yards, I zero my night rifles dead on at 100.

I'm sure different people do different things, but that's my way.

At what distance are you normally shoot hog? If you are normally shooting them at 50 yards, having a 100 yard zero would not make much sense...and vice versa. You should not have to compensate for your most common shots.

I also zero at 100 yards because most of my shots are 75-150 yards.

50 yards for me. A lot of my shots are 50-200 yards, the 50 yard zero pretty well covers me with my 223 or 243 with very little error in adjustment.

50 yard zero with a scope 2.5-3.0" above bore axis puts a bullet no more or less than 1.5" of line of sight out to 200 or so with any load over 2500 fps. Even a super sonic .300 BO load (110 gr @ 2350 fps, scope 2.5" above bore axis) is only 2" low at 200. Unless you're really planning on reaching out and touching things at night, I don't see much advantage to the 100 yard zero.

I tend to use mine a little differently than most- I have two particular fields I hunt that I have set up with multiple feeders and an elevated (1 15' and 1 10') blind in each. My shots are mostly 75-100 yards minimum, and are more commonly 160+ so I sighted mine in 1.5" high at 100 yards. It works well for me.

As noted by others, the best approach seems to be to zero at the range you most expect to shoot.
Most of my shots are between 50-100 yards. I zero at 80 yards.

I shot a hog last night at 6:10, 100 yards, I was looking through my Swaro Z-6 but nothing was glowing.

I too fretted over the 50 vs 100 for my thermals. My thought is it makes no difference. Most thermals have low magnification. I choose 50 because it is hard for me to really see a target precisely at 100 with one. Most calibers you are talking an inch or less difference in point of impact between the two. If 1” matters to you on a night shot on hog you are on a entirely different level than me. A lot of night shots are off shooting sticks, t posts, offhand whatever. It’s not normally benchrest grade shots.

This is the difference between a 100 yard zero and a 1" high at 100 yard zero on a hog at 80 yards. The shot my partner attempted was at the base of the ear. This hog ran and had be be dropped with another shot.
