First, I’m really a novice when it comes to pigs. They’re not as widespread here. Built this trap, and just got this alert photo. It’s 10:00 at night so I will drive there tomorrow. Those panels are welded to scaffolding and 5 feet tall. The traps probably an 8’ pentagon. She’s a big one (at least it appears). My question: Think she can go over the top? It’s firmly anchored so no way she’s getting under it. How long would you feel comfortable leaving her there before getting her? Caught her one hour ago. Thanks for any input.

I've seen hogs climb over 5' panels. So get there quick.

Just got new photo. She’s still there. Will go down tomorrow morning. How long do you guys normally leave pigs in traps? I know they won’t survive long.
What’s your guess as to weight. 200 lbs? Guess I need to take a friend to help.
So I sneak up (how close?) and pop her in the head I assume. Guess she will freak when she sees or smells me.

She may not do it BUT could easily climb out that and has already gauged it.

I can't tell you the number of hogs I've lost that way and I run 4" x 4" x 60" high panels.

At night....they will usually settle down AFTER digging and rooting some, but at first daylight they are going to want out.

Flintnapper....I sure like that door you have on that trap. I have a similar trap, but have a smaller door I bought from Tractor Supply a long time ago. It has done pretty good for me, but a wider one like yours would sure be a lot better.

Harkriscar....Just walk right up to the trap with a pistol and pop it between the eyes or through the ear, and you should be in good shape. Then the work starts, dragging it out of the trap ! Most of the time I use a 9mm pistol, but even a .22 will do the job. I normally use the 9mm, just because that is what is usually in my truck...virtually most any caliber will work.

Thanks guys. All worked out. Went down this morning and like y’all said, she had dug up the ground pretty good. I didn’t rile her up much and shot her in the head. I’m glad she didn’t go over the top. Think I’ll add some height or overlap. But with so many deer, I want to leave the top open. I think they could jump out if they trip my trigger.
