What’s your go to machete? Last trip to the ranch we had to track a buck that I shot. Going through all the brush made me realize I could have used a good machete to clear some brush out of my way.

Cold Steel latin machete I have 2 that I've nearly wore out. I also have a Collins that had the black paper tag, and an Ontario, but neither one does as good all around job as the Cold Steel. I have one at the farm for briars and such, and one in town for the bushes out along the alley. Seldom needs a touch up while using
Unfortunately, I understand that Cold Steel has been sold, so they may not offer the machetes any more. They made a gazillion and a half of them so they should be for sale at different places for a while

https://www.amazon.com/Tramontina-TT1018-Machete-Wood-Sword/dp/B00367P3TCInexpensive, very good quality, rugged. I use a machete hard (you can't be without one in Deep East Texas) and these hold up. Made in Brazil (where they know machetes). DO be careful with them though. I was cutting a trail a little too fast and swung a bit too hard on a 2" pine sapling. Went through it like butter and managed to chop my shin with it. Completely soaked one rag, changed it out for a second when I took this pic.

I made the mistake once of buying a cheap machete. In no time, the blade was bent. I ten bought a Tops machete. It's very sturdy. Looks to be out of stock everywhere though. https://www.topsknives.com/machete-230

Could always get a lawn mower blade like Carl on Sling Blade
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

I have one that is older than I am and I just turned 75 first week of Dec. The blade says U.S. ARMY on it. It does have some good steel.

I have had a Ka Bar Kukri for about to years now. https://www.amazon.com/Tramontina-TT1018-Machete-Wood-Sword/dp/B00367P3TCInexpensive, very good quality, rugged. Completely soaked one rag, changed it out for a second when I took this pic. I have had a Ka Bar Kukri for about ten years now. It works great for trimming limbs, cleaning pigs, splitting deer sternums etc. I agree with the above post, almost lost a finger cutting marshmello sticks for the kids one night and did probably the same thing to my leg as he did in the pic above trimming brush at the river. Got off balance on the bank, swung a little hard and it with through the sapling I was chopping and right into the top of my left shin. Luckily our resident self taught wanna be ER trauma tech (LG) had a suture kit and put a few in me. Crisis averted and still had time to dove hunt that afternoon. I run it through the Work Sharp occasionally, beats the snot out of the cheap GI type ones they sell at most places. https://www.amazon.com/KA-BAR-KA124...g=Gumzj&pd_rd_i=B001H53Q8A&psc=1

I have heard nobody with a positive prediction about their future, everyone is worried they are going to end up going downhill in quality. Hopefully they are wrong

The Marbles sheath fits like a glove.

I work with the company who acquired Cold Steel. We have no intention in letting quality slip. We are innovative and will be coming out with other great designs

We are innovative and will be coming out with other great designs Hopefully this will be the way things are. Unfortunately, at most all companies in the United States now the accounting department runs the show instead of people with practical experience and knowledge of the particular product or service. I've seen many times in many various areas where somebody with a few business degrees let a previously successful company swirl down the toilet because they tried to run things the way they learned in school, but had none of the practical knowledge needed to run things and keep a formerly successful business at the top of the heap. Every successful business I've ever dealt with had people at the helm that knew everything about that business top to bottom inside and out and could step in and do any job in the whole place. That's why there's so many out of business and under new management signs everywhere you go these days. Good luck with it

The knife community is pretty worried about it. Lynn Thompson was a colorful character but the man built a great company and Andrew Demko is a huge reason people love Cold Steel. I think most are worried he will leave and the great designs from them will cease and production will get moved to somewhere else.

I agree but that is not the case with our company. We have a great track record of acquiring companies and building them to what they are today. Check out all our brands. Gsmoutdoors.com
We appreciate all the support and if anyone has any issues let me know. I can help out
