Hey everybody,
Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but here we go. I have a steer that needs to be processed and Fischer's Meat Market in Muenster is the only place I found with a slaughter date. They have really good reviews on Google, but that's mostly related to the meats they prepare and sell themselves. Does anyone have experience with their custom processing??
Thanks a bunch.
Nic

No experience with them, but know several who have used Blue Bonnet Meat Market out in Trenton, and they've been very pleased. We've bought from these folks and never been disappointed.

Yes, I tried to schedule with them and they are booked 'til September. This steer will need to go before then. Thanks for the suggestion though!

No current processing experience but they have been around a long time and make great sausage. My father in-law grew up in between Whitesboro and Sherman, Fischer's was where they took all of their personal cattle to be slaughtered and processed back in the 60s-70s. With current situation I would think its hard to even get a date scheduled.

Don't think I can be too picky at this point.

I was referred to Hess as well, but they were booked for the year. Is there anything about Fischer's that would be a deal-breaker in your opinion? It seems like they might be the only ones with a date available....

I had never heard of Fischers before I join this forum back in 2009 but these are actually the first comments I have ever seen that weren't favorable of them...just my two cents

I took 2 steers to Fischer's last summer, was my first time there. We usually take everything to Hess but they were backed up. Fishers did a good job no complaints, be sure you get your meat double wrapped it's worth the extra pennies.

Also don't forget beef is processed by the 1/2 of beef, meaning one whole side of beef has to be cut the same. If your selling 1/4 beef to friends/neighbor's you'll have to find 2 people who decide on the same cuts. You can call Fischer's and have them email you their cut list this way you'll have it all filled out when you deliver the steer. I had 8 customers for my 2 steers (each took a 1/4 beef) and no complaints as to cuts/quantity. As a rule 1/4 beef will yield approx. 160 lbs of packaged beef, that is if the steer is 1000-1200 lbs. Only issue is the older lady you'll deal with is short/snappy with answers and dealings. Just take a deep breath and be pleasant.

My FIL is giving me the steer...he said he thought the hanging weight would probably be 500-600lbs.

It looked to me that everything they sold was produced there. Don’t remember fish.
Best sausage I ever had.

I have never had any processing done there but they are legit. We get a big prime rib every year for Christmas and they have always done right by me.

I've had them process several wild hogs. Always did a good job. No complaints from me. Also love their sausages and boudin.
