My neighbor is just flat overrun with hogs. I’m across a gravel road from him and have NO hogs. There isn’t even a fence between us. Our closest feeders are maybe 300 or 400 yards apart. The only difference that I can see is that he feeds corn mixed with protein pellets and I just feed corn. That can’t possibly be enough to keep the hogs on his place, logic tells me, but....he has the hogs and I don’t. Help me out here. Make me attractive to hogs...

Yes, I hate hogs, but need something to hunt now that the deer season is over. And some pig meat for the freezer would be good.

Does he shoot them? Are they getting any pressure from him?

Is he one of those guys that just sits there and watches hogs eat all the corn bc he doesn’t want to shoot and scare the deer away?

This and this. Lack of pressure means sanctuary property.

Protein will not keep his hogs from your place. Hogs range over a pretty large area. They are bound to find your place unless there is something stopping them.

People often assume that when it comes to animals, that it is something that we do as hunters that is dictating their movements and that simply may not be the case. For example, I have hunted a property for 4 years and watched hogs to the west and across the road on countless nights. Only once in 4 years have I see a hog cross the road to the place I hunt and it was a single boar. The hogs come and go from the west, but don't cross to the east. Hogs on my place come and go from the east and south, but don't cross to the west.

He does hunt them. Brought us a pig roast the other day that he had smoked. Delicious.

I guess the hogs have just settled into an area they like. Maybe shooting them will push them this way again. I used to have plenty hogs on this place.

It isn't the fact that you only have corn. Yes, they like the protein, but as soon as they vacuum up all of his corn, I would assume that they would travel just 300 yards to vacuum up all of your corn. Do you have cameras up? Are you sure that they aren't just coming to your feeder at midnight?

Well, I’ve been hunting them for years, so I know the signs. There aren’t any hog signs or tracks at the feeders or at the usual crossing places on the fence lines. I was shooting them pretty regular for a while, so maybe they decided to relocate a short ways. The previous neighbor over there, and the two neighbors prior to that, didn’t hunt much, so maybe the pressure here drove them there.

The hogs are west of me, so the normal wind patterns wouldn’t bring enticing smells to them from my place.

Sooner or later, they’ll be back. I think...

If he hunts them, then it doesn't sound like he puts much pressure on them if his place remains overrun.

With that said, if they continue like they are on your neighbor's place, they will over populate and the young will attempt to spread out into new territories that will undoubtedly include your place.

Agree with BDD...I'd be happy if they stayed off my property! smirk

A minute spent outdoors is so much more valuable than a day spent online!

I'm in a similar situation but I prefer them not to be on my land.
