I posted this in another forum section but thought I would share here. This is a knife my Dad left for me after he died.

He served in World War II and was stationed overseas. He brought this back and told me it was a Kamikaze pilots knife that they used to kill themselves before they burned their plane into an American ship. The cover is made of silk and has deteriorated over the years. The knife and sheath is made of wood and looks handmade to me. The story is they would carry this knife with them and as they dove into a ship would pull it out and stab themselves in order to die before the crash. All I know is that when I was a kid he showed it to me many times (over 60 years ago) and then left it to me after he died. One of my favorite possessions

Cool... but seems unlikely it would survive a Kamakazi crash?

I'm guessing it was acquired some other way....or circumstance. Very cool artifact...regardless.

Oh I do not think this one was in a crash - I think the pilots had these made if needed and my Dad got one while over there

Makes perfect sense.

Cherish it and the memory of your Father.

And know that we greatly appreciate his service and all the contributions of his generation. Quite a group of guys.

My father had a Randall knife
My mother gave it to him
When he went off to WWII
To save us all from ruin
If you've ever held a Randall knife
Then you know my father well
If a better blade was ever made
It was probably forged in hell

Thanks for sharing that, it’s American history no one needs to forget. My grandfather brought back a set of German binoculars I was given after he passed away.
